please help! low beta after 3 misscarriages

Postby jjj » Thu Jan 24, 2008 7:06 pm

hi i am new to the board. In the past year and a half i have been to hell and back with three miscarriages. I am sure many of you can relate. I saw a specialist and found out i have hashmitos disease, positve ANA and Antiocardiolipin antibody. I am now on synthroid, asprin and progesterone. I am now pregnant again and very scared. I had my blood tested at 18dpo. HCG was 101, progesterone was 28. I feel the HCG is low. In my my last pregnacies the beta's were alot higher even though I miscarried. I think it implanted fairly late as i only got a very faint positve on 14/15 dpo. Please let me know what you think. I had my blood done again today but have not got results.
Thanks so much for your response

Hi jjj,
Ho yes I can relate to you bc I had 3 mc in the last year two. We are almost done with the testing and will have the result the first week of February.
I am happy for you to know that they found out what was the problem, bc in 50% of the case, they don't... So now for you they know what to work with...
So you are now pregnant...I whant to congradulate you... (sorry for my mistake, I am french).

For Progesterone, see what I have found:
What are normal progesterone levels?
Progesterone during menstrual cycle

Day 1-14 >1 to 1.5 ng/ml

Day 15-28 2-28 ng/ml

Progesterone during pregnancy

First Trimester 9-47 ng/ml
Second Trimester 17-147 ng/ml
Third Trimester 55-200 ng/ml

Sometimes doctors will check a woman's progesterone level during pregnancy. Most doctors like to see a minimum level of 10 ng/ml during the first few weeks of pregnancy. If a woman has low progesterone levels this can be an indication of a threatened miscarriage. If you are concerned about your progesterone level talk to your doctor for more information.

For HCG level:Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :

3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml

An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy.

Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 - 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers

You are in good hands!

Thanks Jt and miss27.....any encouragement helps. My 2nd beta numbers jan 22 101
jan 24 263.

So i am feeling better. However, I still feel they are low.
Miss27 i wish you all the best in finding out your results. It is a long wait itsn't it. It is important to find a doctor you can trust. I am now seeing dr. stephenson in Chicogo who is very good. Are you from France? Is there good specialists there?

I have been told many many times, the numbers don't matter nearly as much as the doubling. And i think your looking good. I am pregnant again after two miscarriages in two years. I know exactly where you are coming from! I flipped when mine were only 40 at 13dpo, but at 15dpo they were 92, and the dr was very pleased with them. I think your looking just fine!!

With ANA + and anti-cardiolipin antibodies you need to be on lovenox (heparin) injections as well.
