Cold Sore during 1st tri

Postby kbd831 » Tue Mar 24, 2015 5:52 am

Hi All- I literally just received my BFP yesterday after trying for a year..... Suddenly today I wake up with the beginning stage of a cold sore. Is anything safe to take? This is my first pregnancy so I'm just making sure I know the details!

I am not sure. I wish i had answer for you. Have you tried calling your OB/MW and asking what would be best? Im sure your not the only one, and they know what is best.

Yes I would also make sure to get Herpes tests drawn. Type 1 or cold sores can be transfered and become Type 2. Type 2 cannot be transfered to the mouth however.

If you do have active infections throughout pregnancy you may need to do a c section. The transmision of Herpes to a baby being born can be fatal.

I just got mine drawn as I have had an antibody build up since at least age 20. My mother has HSV1 and most people get this from their parents kissing on them when they are little. I tested neg for an active infection and always have. I have never ever had a cold sore either. SO I feel pretty safe but ill monitor it.

Not trying to scare anyone, but I have worked at a womens clinic and seen what this infection can do to babies so please make sure your doctors know so they can help you have a healthy pregnancy and delivery.
