I'm sorry that this recent experience has been so stressful for you. The hospital you visited for the diagnosis is clearly very thorough, and that's a great thing. They were able to tell you exactly what the abnormality was, what it's called and how to treat it. The biggest thing to take from all of this is that it is treatable. Although it requires surgery at a very young age, she will be in the best care throughout the process and will go on to have a normal life. They have a plan for the moment she's born and I think that's really important - they are treating this with priority and will know exactly what is needed and when. I also think it's great that you're going ahead with the Harmony test with it having such a high accuracy rate. Although a very slim chance that downs is in the cards, I can't blame you for wanting to know everything you possibly can now, given the recent stresses you've encountered.

Commending you on your strength and faith- you're going to be a wonderful mother.

Jane, I'm so sorry to read what's going on. I'm very glad that she will be able to live a long and healthy life, but having to have surgery as a tiny baby is just so sad to think about. I'm keeping you in my prayers and I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes very smoothly with no other worries. Your daughter is in great hands!

Jane i admire your strength and faith during this difficult time. I'm so thankful for modern medicine and technology, and that they were able to find this issue and prepare for it before she was born. Sending lots of prayer and positive thoughts that's your harmony test comes back with good news!

Thank you so much for your lovely messages, they do mean a lot :) I have realised this is way out of my control and I will go insane if I don't put my faith in God through this. I am seeing my consultant tomorrow and I'm armed with 100 questions, it was all so much to take in that it wasn't until later that we started having questions. I saw my midwife today and she listened to the baby and said she was amazed how strong and fast her heartbeat was and how active she was that it was hard to believe there was anything wrong with her. She also says baby is a good size which is encouraging. One day at a time.
Anyway, how is everyone? Not long to go now! Hope you all feel well. I had another stomach cramps/vomiting etc episode and midwife says I probably have Maternal Irritable Bowel Syndrome.... awesome lol :D I seriously won't forget this pregnancy! Tia, how is your inflammation? Has it settled down?

Glad to hear the appointment went well. The inflammation went from redness to more of a purplish/bruising- its so ugly. The dermatologist explained to me that this is not going to go away until after I deliver the baby. It hasn't been too uncomfortable though (which is great), just ugly to look at- so I try to avoid looking at it.
Today marks the start of my 30th week! It's so crazy to see how close I am to meeting my little girl!

30 weeks?! Wow, not long to go! I'm glad the inflammation isn't painful, if it looks bad at least you know it's just temporary. Let's face it, there are lots of ugly things that occur during pregnancy but thankfully they go away after delivery. With my second I got a few stretch marks low down (not red though) on one side but thankfully they weren't noticeable when my bump went down.
I also had swollen hands, face, feet and ankles at the end... so attractive lol.
Men don't realise what they get away with :D

Well I had another traumatic day yesterday. I was supposed to be having an appt with the fetal medicine specialist to discuss the Cardiologist report from last weeks diagnosis. She was very abrupt and said that heart condition is linked to chromosome abnormalities and she wanted to scan me. She said there were 4 'soft markers' for Down's Syndrome! 1) Clenched fists 2) Abnormally short femur bone 3) Small nose 4) Gap in back of head. If that wasn't bad enough she then said I could terminate my pregnancy even at 25 weeks! She coldly told me they could give me some medication to stop her heart and then induce me! I couldn't face that whatever she has/hasn't got. I was really upset and don't know how I drove home. Anyway, I had my private Harmony Blood Test today that will tell me for sure but I get the results in 2 weeks. 99.9% accurate for all chromosome abnormalities. I got a free 4D scan with it.... all four soft markers eliminated! Hands stretched out, normal nose and nasal bone, leg bones within normal range and no abnormalities in the head/brain! Unbelievable! I prayed like mad before I went in but wasn't expecting that. Haven't a clue how it could be so different from yesterday. Her face is perfect and the Sonographer said she certainly doesn't look like a Down's baby. Will post a pic in a min. So this all makes me more hopeful about that condition but I know there could be anything wrong so won't rest til I get the results. Then we can just focus on the heart. It's been such an emotional rollercoaster!

Thanks Tia, it's awful isn't it.... still trying to get my head around everything. Apparently we don't have to see that consultant again if we don't want to so that's a good thing. I've never heard of four soft markers there one day and gone the next, it's all been crazy. Just trying to be positive as I wait for the Harmony results now. Anyway, how are you doing? Is your bump big? Mine seems to have grown rapidly in the last couple of weeks. I am now officially feeling heavily pregnant but I have 13 weeks to go yet (induced at 38 weeks so there can be a planned team ready for when Dakota comes out) How many weeks have you to go? Is it dragging?

Overall I'm feeling good. I have the minor aches here and there but nothing too bad. Belly has def gotten bigger. I'll try to add an updated picture. I'm 30 weeks, so 10 more to go.

That specialist was so insensitive and assumptive - so horrible!!! I would've seriously lost it if she said that to me. For her to assume chromosomal abnormality and act so sure of herself and then go so far as to explain how you can terminate the pregnancy at this stage, I can only imagine how you must've felt hearing that. The Harmony test is going to come back just fine, your baby girl is beautiful and everything will work out. I've been thinking about your recent situation with the cardiologist and how everything has changed in the last few weeks and I will continue to keep you and your little baby girl in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you Chloe, that's really kind of you. I'm seeing a different consultant tomorrow thankfully, just hope they don't want to scan me as I'm developing a bit of a phobia for them! Just want the Harmony results first. Anyway, how are you feeling? When's your next appt?
Tia, I can't believe your baby girl will be here in about ten weeks!.... and considering babies are considered full term and can come at any time from 38 weeks, it might be just 8 weeks away! 8O Exciting!

I'm doing pretty good, thanks! My next appointment is tomorrow night at the OB for a regular check up and then my next scan is on 8/31. I'm starting to feel a lot more movements now- I have an anterior placenta (don't remember if I mentioned that in an earlier post or not) so the movements are somewhat muffled by the placenta being in between me and the baby. But in the last few days, I've felt some pretty noticeable pops that would take me by surprise for a moment. My child is like a little ninja in there though, so perhaps its a blessing that the placenta is there to take some of the blow haha!

Anyone get started on the nursery yet? I have to pick out the paint color so we can officially get started and we picked up a few odds and ends for the nursery here and there to go with the theme- the chair was actually delivered today so I'm excited to go home and put it together with my husband and see how it is. We also picked out the crib/dresser, my parents offered to get it for us so I can't wait til it's here! :)

It will be really cool to see it all come together- then I think it will really feel real! ;)

How are you ladies feeling?

I know Jane its so crazy and exciting. I feel like its so close to her being here, but yet so far away...if that makes sense.
Nichole, I have an anterior placenta too. I'm glad you are feeling movements....isn't it the greatest feeling?!

Our nursery is coming along....walls painted, crib and dressers set up. We aren't planning on decorating the walls though until October. My baby shower is 9/12 and its been so exciting seeing all the stuff that is being purchased off my registry! :)

Nichole, glad you're doing well and feeling your boy kick. There's nothing more reassuring eh! You will have to put a pic of the nursery up here when it's done. We haven't done Dakota's nursery yet as the playroom is still under construction! Scott says he'll be finished it by the end of the month and then he can start on the nursery and Rocco's room. Such a big upheaval but he promises it'll all be done by October. Hope so as I'm being induced around the middle of November!

Tia, is a baby registry a bit like a wedding list? (Where you write down items you'd like and people buy something from the list) Forgive my ignorance, we don't have them here.... I'd never heard of them til recently.
