Howw did your delivery go?

Postby ete29 » Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:00 pm

I was lucky enough to have had two med-free deliveries with no interventions and am wondering if going med-free really had anything to do with the no intervention part. I think if I do it again I would consider an epi but am afraid of having complications from it.

I think meds are a factor in interventions. However, there are so many factors involved that it is hard to pin point one direct cause for intervention. I went med free and did not need any interventions mainly because I had an AWESOME nurse. She had me turn on each side for two contractions to help DS move down. He got stuck and just wasn't coming down any further. If the nurse didn't think of that who knows what would have happened. :? It could have easily turned into an emergency c-section since I had already been pushing for almost 2 hours.

I also went med free. I credit my doula who thinks DS was stuck and this was why my cntrx weren't getting longer. She had me try three hours worth of different positions to labor in.

Avoiding interventions, namely a c-sect, is a big reason why we went natural.

I've had 2 babies with epis and no interventions. I really loved both of my birthing experiences. I had DS @ 38 weeks 8 lbs. 4 oz. and DD @ 39 weeks 9 lbs. 2 oz. and didn't tear with either of them.

I had a med free delivery, absolutely no interventions. I walked, relaxed and used the shower to cope with pain. When I had a bit of back labor right before pushing ( because LO was slightly turned on his way down) my midwife put me in different positions to move him around. Everything went great! I love my labor experience and would do it med-free again in a flash. It would totally freak me out not to be able to feel when to push, or to have all the possible side affects of an epidural!

EDIT: LO was born at 39 weeks 2 days and was 8 lbs 2 oz :)

I had an epi and it was wonderful. I didn't need any interventions and I still had the need to push and was able to push with no problem. DS was only 6 lbs 7 oz but I swear my body was revolting against labor - I was miserable and throwing up. :( Once that epi went in I had no problems.

I had an epi and it went well.

I went into labor at 8am on her EDD.. water broke in the shower.. so lucky there!
Got to the hospital around 9am... contractions started and I made it to 6cm... then got the epi.
Was in labor for 12 hours.. they, unfortunately had to use the suction cup on her poor little head. It was either that or a csection ...I didn't have any more strength to push anymore. The only thing I regret is the suction cup.. I wish I could have tried harder to push. She ended up having jaundice from the bruise on her head from the suction cup.. which led to her being on a uv light for about a week. She's perfectly healthy and happy now tho.. no other s/e!
I do have to say that the actual labor was fantastic tho! I started pushing around 7pm... all the lights were turned down in our room (it was a LDR room) and the blinds were up.. the sun setting in the distance.. so picturesque! She was delivered around 9:30pm that night.

I tried to go natural but was induced with pitocin and couldn't take the back to back contractions and profuse vomiting. I had an epi finally and narrowly avoided an emergencey c-sect. The Dr. said that if I hadn't had the epi I would have had a c-sect for sure. Baby was much bigger than anyone thought at 8 lbs 12 oz. I could feel EVERYTHING for pushing so that deffinately wasn't a problem. 8O

I did not have an epi and no other interventions other than pitocin. I have a beautiful labor and delivery. I would try to go epi-free in the future if we had more children.

I had an epi and had a great experience. I'd say that there were no interventions at all, but the doctor did need to use a tiny bit of suction to get her out.

I dilated unevenly, despite laying on the slow side the majority of the time -- the epi wore off on that side so I could feel to push really well. But I still had a lip that just wouldn't dilate fully. So he used a little suction to get her over that ridge. You'd never know it though... she looked great, no cone head. And I had only very minimal tearing and a fantastic recovery. Didn't even need ibuprofen afterwords.
