Yes, sometimes it's needed, but I wouldn't choose it. Epi has a side effect of paralysis from the waist down - but not everyone gets it or no one would have them.

However Pitocin has a huge list of related issues including increased chance of haemorrage, less chance of successful breast milk production, retained placenta and plenty more.
