Question about Local Anesthesia

Postby Lex1008 » Fri May 11, 2012 10:56 am

This could be a very silly question, but hopefully someone can comment. I would like to have as natural of a delivery as possible, but from reading some birthing stories I've become terrified of "the ring of fire" and tearing. Do they ever give you local anesthesia down there before baby is about to come out even without getting an episiotomy? And then if it looks like your going to tear give you a quick episiotomy.... can they even tell if your likely to tear or not?

It doesn't last long, and it's honestly not as hard to deal with as contractions. You don't need a local anaesthetic. :)

Also, it's better to tear than get an episiotomy. It heals better. Either way, they'll give you a local if you need to be stitched back up.
