vba2c after placental abruption.

Postby Rubyru » Sat May 12, 2012 3:14 am

1st section was due to failure to progress so went for a VBAC second time, but suffered an abruption so ended with another emergency cesarean. Not sure how to proceed this time. Only early days, so these are just 1st thoughts

Another thing I have noted, predicted discharge from hospital with dd1 was 72hrs after delivery due to c-section. When I had dd2 this had been reduced to 48hrs and I was shocked to find out it is now 18hrs after delivery.[/u]

I would do another c-section with your history. It isn't worth the risk IMO

I would definitely opt for a c-section this time if you've had an abruption. A VBAC is just too dangerous for you & baby. I'm actually not even sure if many OBs would allow it under those circumstances. HTH.

I would opt for another sectin too if I had your history. Good luck with your decision.

I'd get the surgical report from the hospital and take it to an OB for an open-minded discussion.

This seems to be the best advice :-) My OB is based at the hospital I delivered at both times, though she was not my surgeon, she was my OB for those 2 pregnancies and encouraged the VBAC TOL, which was obviously not meant to be.

I am leaning towards an elective section, but I want to keep an open mind. I tend to bake for rather a long time, over 42 weeks both times, so a 39 week elective would put pay to that, but I guess there is always the chance of going into labour before 39weeks and I want to be armed with enough information to make the best choice in those circumstances.

I have only recently discovered that c-sections increase the risk of abruption slightly, but given how late my daughter was (some disagreement between professionals about my dates), it could have been a combination of previous section and gestation.

 awe thanks. I'm not all too familiar with "abruption" but my OB told me that I have a higher risk of placenta previa with all my sections. If abruption is what I think it is (premature disadhesience[sp?] from the uterine wall) just keep in mind that just because that happened with baby A doesn't necessarily mean baby B will have the same issue.

Hope you find your answers and peace of mind,:hb:

Another option is waiting for labor to start then going in for the elective c-section. I had 2 RCS at 40 wks and then c-section after TOL with a vba3c at 41.5 wks.

I hope you get what you want.

I have to do the 39 latest because of the previous abruption. Never had a baby pre dates before, both my girls were over 2 weeks late.
