C section question

Postby mrssara » Sat May 26, 2012 7:38 am

So, I remember the hospital would not let me leave until I had a bm after ds..( sorry if tmi). So..I REALLY don't want to be in for 5 days because I havent had one .
They gave me something the day of discharge to get things moving and it still took like 6 hours. Anyone know if they will let you have those fiber one bars? I thought about just asking and having some in the car for dh to bring in and starting those as soon as they let me eat . Not a lot, just like one a day.

Anyone have any experience upping their fiber in the hospital after a c section? I thought the only possible reason they may say no was to avoid cramps and all that sometimes those fiber bars can cause.

My "ideal" time would be go in tuesday and be out friday at the latest. We go in tuesday at 7:30, so friday would be 4 days including tuesday.

Also, anyone know if I can request to be out at the earliest possible? I know I can ask, I just don't know if it will help any .

My hospital keeps reducing c-section recovery time, discharge with dd1 in '07 had to be at least 72hours after delivery, discharge with dd2 in '10 had to be at least 48hours and I have just found out current procedure is 18hours after delivery! ! !

I cannot see it being a problem having a fibre bar, not sure I would even ask!

I'm hoping that as long as everything looks ok, they will let me go at 3 days. The policy says 3-5 days...ugh. I was up and walking the same day with the emergency c section with ds..but it was a different hospital.

I might just take them then, I don't want to be stuck waiting on something like a bm as long as everything else feels fine. Plus, my parents will have ds..and I have never been without him for more than like 48 hours max . I still get upset when his dad comes in town once in a while to get him...I can't imagine 4 days without seeing him. Obviously, if baby is healthy and I am doing fine, I want out lol.

18 hours after a c section? That is insane!

I think 18 hours is insane, this time will be elective where my previous 2 were emergencies so hopefully that will help. The worst part of being in after having dd2 was not seeing dd1, i barely got to see her :-(

Yea, ds is going with my parents after the c section . He will be up there on and off through the day to see us and his baby brother, but then they are taking him with them to their house ( about an hour away) until we are out of the hospital. I really wanted them to stay at our house , but they insisted on having him ,they have fun things planned for him, I just know I am going to go insane not having him up there to see us while we are at the hospital. That's probably the main reason I want to leave asap.

DS's section was emergency, this one is scheduled due to the doc not doing VBAC,I didn't want to switch OB's or risk any extra complications . SO, hopefully the recovery time wont be as long? When is yours scheduled for?

I still have months to go, but after 2 emergencies, an elective is the only way to go

My hospital didn't make me wait for a bm and I wish they did. I didn't have one for 8 days after delivery and I was in so much pain I had to go to the hospital and get a ct scan cause we weren't sure if my appendix burst.

I just had an elective c section and my hospital didnt make me wait until I had a BM. They released me after 3 nights, I wound up having my first BM on day 2 home from the hospital. I did ask my nurse right away to start giving me colace 2x per day. They gave it to me starting the day following my section. When I got home, I started drinking metamucil twice a day and that got things going..the first time was still not fun, but things got much easier on each successive BM.

My hospital this time didn't make me wait, but I did have one the day of discharge while I was waiting on paperwork. I had my son on Saturday night at 10:45 pm and left the hospital on Monday. I was definitely ready. I hate being in the hospital.

My hospital didn't make me wait either. I was there 72hrs after emergency c-section with DS1 ... I didn't have to be there that long but I had nobody at home and hubby wasn't coming until 8 days later so there was no rush but with DS2 I wanted to go home asap to my 19 months old and hubby who was home so I got discharged after 48hrs (elective c-section) . I'm planning on the 48hr stay again with this last baby. My recovery with DS2 was a lot easier so as long as things go the same way, I'll be ready to leave very fast!

My Csection was scheduled and they didn't make me wait to have a BM.

I was discharged 48 hours after surgery. And I had no problems with having a BM when I got home (scared however lol but I don't think it effects scheduled section patients like it may effect emergency or those who labored for a while)
