Labor Bag MUST HAVES

Postby marinewife78 » Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:58 pm

OK this is my 2nd birth, the 1st one was 17 years ago and it was a emerg csection, this one is looking good so looking like no csection (which i just found out)...so I wanted some input on labor bag MUST HAVES.
Like I mentioned its been 17 years since I had a kid and Im little scared, feel like I dont know what I am or will be doing, and I want to make this as smooth as I can
If there is a certain brand of something or flavor or smell I wanna know ANYTHING from clothes,socks,etc.....any and everything!
I am 33 weeks and going to be making my bag this weekend!!!!!

and if there is something I need to make sure I have for my husband please let me know!

THANKS!!!!!!

Let me start by saying congrats and you will do/be just fine ! :) its nerve racking (I'm nervous the second time around too) but we can do it :)

I can say for sure that things I DID NOT need last time were :

Make-up
Multiple outfits
Reading materials(too busy and tiredto read)

Must haves this time:

My own undies ( I hated the hospital ones)
Pads (again hated hospital pads)
Chapstick!!
Snacks (in case cafeteria is closed)
Socks

For dh I would say:

A pillow
Blanket
Snacks
Change of clothes

A lot of these items are provided by the hospital but I want to bring my own this time

This is a great thread, I'm only 5 weeks but this forum is giving me a lot to think about and planning for the future helps me to not worry so much :) what about things for the baby like the outfit to bring him/her home, receiving blankets, nipple cream if you'll be bf, maybe your iPod or whatever filled with soothing music to help you relax, I'd bring reading material just in case since my bff did the same thing and knew she had no time the first time but for whatever reason she had some times when she was bored and wanted a book this time. Sweatshirt or hoodie, warm socks, sweats (I find hospitals really cold).

Would have killed for my own pillow!

Oh and I sent DP for my own soft toilet paper!! The stuff in the hospital was horrible and rough.. Not what you want after a vaginal delivery.

Other then that, comfy pjs, slippers and undies

Granny panties! The big high waist ones! The bigger the better. I frowned when my mom brought me these but they were so comfy. I had an emergency c-section so I couldn't wear mine. Plus you have room for the big pads. Bring your pillow and your own pads (overnight ones) lots of them. Hospitals ones were crap. High waisted drawstring pants. Good luck!

gatorade gives you some extra energy (can even make ice chips with it!)
Tennis balls (get someone to rub them on your back)

Lots of good suggestions!

My musts are:

Comfy socks
pillow from home
Robe
Depends (seriously...Awesome)
Makeup
Shower supplies
Birthing ball WITH pump (we forgot the pump for my last birth...argh!)

My musts were/are:

Camera with extra batteries or a charger
Cell Phone
Comfy clothes for after the baby arrives (larger sized undies)
Limited Make-up
I brought my own shampoo/conditioner
I also brought brush & small curling iron (people will be taking pictures)
Reading material - I was admitted at 4AM and did not have DD until almost 6 PM and I got bored.
I brought a robe in case they made me walk the halls

Going home outfit for baby
Baby Blanket

Snacks would have been nice, but the hospital I went to catered to their new moms, or I made DH go get something.

This time I am going to bring large overnight pads...the ones the hospital gives you are HUGE.

I ended up over packing, but then again it's what I do. :D

My DH must have had something with him to change into, maybe I had it packed for him already. The hospital supplied the pillows and blankets.

- You'll want to immortalize every moment of those first few hours with your new baby. Don't forget the chargers, and confirm that your hospital allows video cameras.
- With all diapers, blankets, pillows, creams and toiletries.
- Important Documents and cash.
