This scares me

Postby LiliWS » Mon Sep 22, 2014 6:04 am ... bills.html?

As someone who lives in New York, dodging scams is a daily necessary practice. The prospect of medical vultures legally scamming me out of six-figure sums for unnecessary persons, procedures and equipments at labor and delivery makes my blood boil. I once refused to sign an intake sheet (for an HSG) that said I agreed to be responsible for expenses not covered by my insurance. What else should I be on the look-out for? What surprises have you experienced moms discovered on your hospital bills for the birth of your babies? I fully intend to go in informed and ready to defend myself while I still have the capacity, instead of when I'm defenseless in a hospital bed.

Have you ever watched the business of being born?

I am going with midwives personally who deliver in the hospital. Unfortunalty those of us with private ins will pay more because we are covering people who dont pay and state programs.

The best thing to do is get a detailed itemized bill. Then you will see that you are paying 10$ for a band aid ect and you can argue the pricing down.

Good luck!
