I was all natural up until the very end - if DS hadn't gotten stuck it would have been a natural birth. And honestly it wasn't bad at all except for the pressure DS was putting on my bones. Water labor is the best!
Rachel - happily married since 5/20/00
DS #1 - David- 12/5/04
DS #2 due 8/15/07 - scheduled C-section 8/7/07
Giving glory to GOD for all my blessings!

No drugs, no epidural here- au naturel! (ok, I asked for drugs eventually, but I was already 9cm, and they couldn't do it... I was glad I went without.)

natural with DS... but this time if I really think I'm not handling the situation I think I'll ask for drugs for sure... not keen on the epi but having said that "who knows!!" I'm not ANTI anything when it comes to that day of horror

Bailey- thank you! Yeah, I think we did a good job... lol!!
I was glad I went natural because it was really cool to feel how my body coped with everything... It was neat to realize that while pushing was an almost painful urge, the pain itself was not there. Gavin was born sunny side up and when his nose popped out, I actually felt myself tear but there was no pain. That was pretty neat.
I can imagine what it would be like with dugs because while the birth itself was all natural, the doctor gave me Stadol afterwards while he was staunching the blood flow since I tore so badly internally and was yelping and crying from the pain of him sticking gauze pads up there. Once I delivered the placenta, the natural endorphins were gone and man..... Ouch.
The Stadol made me completely loopy and I couldn't hold my head up or anything for long. I can't imagine trying to push like that.

It's all about what you can and cannot tolerate!! What brave women we are!! :D If men had to give birth, I think there would be much less babies "popping" into this world!! :P

Smitten...- I feel the same as you about not having any drugs or epi for the delivery. It was just neat to be able to let my body take over and do what it is supposed to do. I finally understood what my sister meant by you have no worries you will know when it is time!

Though I felt the ring of fire and him coming down the birth canal it really wasn't a pain that I couldn't tolerate.

Jenna- yeah, the ring of fire part wasn't too bad for me either.. i was just happy to rest in between pushes. I was 9cm at 9:30 and he was born at 11:01, so the last part was intense and fast for me.

smitten- I was 4 cm at 515 and Jackson was born at 613!!! I pushed 3 times and the doctor walked in the room just in time to catch Jackson!!

Everything was happening so fast that I wasn't even pushing with contractions I was just pushing and the nurses pulled the monitors off and just said push!

Holy crap Jenna! You sound like my aunt- with her second baby, it was 26 min from the time they popped her water until she was born and her other four kids were all under 90 minutes!
