Ugh. I've found I hate reading anything breastfeeding related anywhere but on breastfeeding forums. People are so ignorant and judgemental. And I hate that poll...there isn't a "they're too old when they decide they are too old" option.

I didn't vote because they didn't have an option for me. The amount who think 1 year is the magical cut off is disheartening. Guess it's time to break it to my daughter who nurses on demand that in three weeks, we're done. I'm sure she'll be fine with that.

When their teeth break through their gums sounds about right. What age is that?

I couldn't believe the number of people who said a year old! Wth?! So sad. I didn't vote, either. Wasn't an appropriate answer option, IMO.

Well darn I guess we missed that memo about 1 yr being the cut off. My daughter is turning 3 in a couple of days and still breastfeeds 1-2 times a day. And she even has all her teeth....

Guess if teeth is the cut off we would have been done at 5 months old. I hear SO many moms say that they are done when teeth come--like it's impossible to nurse with teeth? :?

Personally for my children, I think between 2 1/2 - 3 would be a cut off time for me... but that's just me. My son is a go-getter and he's already almost weaned himself. Since about 9 months, he's not been that into nursing, so I am glad we've made it this far! :)

One year? Really? I have a hard time wrapping my mind around a "cut-off" when teeth erupt or at one year. I guess they think that at one year they no longer "need" breastmilk, so why bother? :?

DD was nursed for 23 months, when she self-weaned. I don't think I would let it go past the age of like 2.5, though. But yeah, that's just me! :)

Ha that poll is sad to me, and some of the comments are downright ignorant.

No one gets to dictate when my child wants to wean. My children have all weaned themselves, some at 15 months, some at 26. We bf because it worked for us, until it didn't. Why is this so controversial? i wish that people would keep their opinions out of my uterus and off of my breasts.

so sad that most people think one year is too old. How about " youre never too old" option. If there is an " I dont believe in breastfeeding option, why is that even there????

Honestly, 3 is my cut off. It would be an amazing milestone, but it would be my limit...I think. I have never made it that far. We are coming up on a year wth DD2 and no end in site. I am thrilled she still wants to nurse all night.

For me, I'm aiming for 2 years, and don't want to go too much on either side of that. HOWEVER, for women and babies at large? Wean when you want to wean. It's good for both of you. So if you're cool with three years and your baby still wants to keep going...do it!

2 is "my" limit though because DD won't be 2 until end of Oct I plan to let her go until spring the following year to get her through one last sickness season. So really it would be weaning her around 2.5 should she not self wean before then. :-)

I clicked and can't even finish reading it! Makes me ill. Seriously sick. I'm still nursing my 3yr old. People are SO close minded. I'm glad I have a mind of my own and know that if my 38 month old wants to nurse still.. that's fine with me. It's sad that drinking milk that comes from a cow's boob is more socially acceptable than the natural way coming from the mom's boob.
