VENT: More MIL issues

Postby jessm » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:12 am

Yesterday, MIL is saying goodbye to Dec and she leans in and says (in baby talk) "goodbye you little $hit" I wasn't sure I heard right so I said "did you just say little $hit?" (in an incredulous voice) and she goes yeah. I said "don't call him that" she replies "I say it with love. (back to baby talk) right? you are nana's little $hit".

So I'm pissed as anything of course. I tell DH about it when he gets home and he laughs and goes "so?". I told him I was extremely upset. He told me to get a grip.

Maybe he was raised in a house where they talk like that, but I was not. That is completely unacceptable. I don't even know how to talk to her about it.

Thankfully my MIL doesn't talk like that.,..I couldn't imagine.

Maybe you could joke with her one day and call her a big $hit?! whaha

But seriously.,..I od'nt know how I would talk to her about that one either. :(

I've been known to call my own baby things like that when she's getting into trouble, lol.

I agree - I'd turn it into a joke and call her a Big Shit and see how she takes it.

Love the "big shit" comeback. "There's nana! Your big shit!" LOL. I was raised in a pretty crude household but am so not that way as an adult (black sheep right here) and it bugged me when my own parents said stuff like that to DD1. I let it slide and thankfully they had the good sense to stop once she got a little older without me having to say anything. They don't do it with DD2, as DD1 repeats everything she hears and they don't want to be a bad influence.
