Where you pump vs output

Postby rkegreen » Wed Jul 18, 2012 8:49 am

Ok, this may sound like a silly post...but has anyone noticed as to 'where' they pumped and the output they had?

I have been pumping in our bathroom at work. It isn't ideal, but it is quiet, and I keep it clean when I set things up. I'm able to relax as I don't hear outside noise and no one can bother me. I'm away from work and I can just free my mind.

Well I started pumping in a different spot this week. I'm surrounded by work, I can hear everything going on outside the door and I can't seem to relax like I can in the bathroom.

I have been keeping track of my output. Last week in my am sesssion I was able to pump 6.5 oz + for a total for the day around 11oz.

Well today, I pumped 4.5 oz! That is all for my am session. My DD is eating that much +/-. I need more milk!!!

I'm wondering if I should start pumping back in the bathroom...as that is my routine and my 'happy pumping place'. I know when I pump at home it is not as much as well.

DD is 4 months old. I also think I had my first PP ovulation on Saturday/Sunday.

Any help is appreciated.

Yup! Same here. If I'm pumping at work I get about 4oz/session with 3 sessions at work. If I'm pumping at home I get about 6 oz/session. Amazing what a little piece and quiet will do for your milk :D

I found if I was pumping at home alone with DS I couldn't get much out. If someone was there taking care of him or holding him for me, I got much more. Its all about relaxing.

When I'm at the office, I pump in a small room with a nice comfy couch and the door is locked and there is no other stimulus besides my cell phone. I tend to pump more when I'm there vs pumping when I'm at home for some reason. I don't know why.

I also have noticed decreased output if I'm not pumping in one of my usual spots. I've noticed that if I stop by my mom's on lunch and pump there I don't get quite as much milk as I do at home or school. I'm not sure sure why that happens since i still use a quiet room where I can relax. Maybe switching back to your old spot might help your output.

For me sometimes it wasn't where I pumped, but what I was doing. I discovered that if I tried to work while pumping, I would hardly get anything. I have trouble getting my milk to let down unless I'm sitting quietly and relaxing, waiting for it to happen.
