exclusive breastfeeding and af

Postby HuntersMom » Wed Sep 12, 2012 4:56 am

Hi Ladies! I had my baby boy july 5th and have been exclusively breastfeeding him around the clock since. I have not had any postpartum bleeding in over a month but 2 days ago I had a very small amount of streaky blood mixed in my cm and later a little orange colored cm. It was not enough to be on my undies just small amount when I wiped. I have not had any since but I am wondering should I consider that just from everything still healing up or could that mean my cycle is starting back?

I agree--probably still healing. I started full on bleeding again at 6 weeks with my first (first PPAF wasn't until 17 months) and with my second at 8 weeks (PPAF at 16 months). It's very common to have bleeding or spotting start up again within the first couple of months or so.

Thanks so much for the reassurance ladies! I want af to stay away as long as possible and hate to think that with exclusive breastfeeding it could be returning so soon. I know with my other two it didn't return until the 2nd month after I weaned so hopefully I will have the same results this time!

I know some people who get AF back at 6 weeks. I'm 8.5 months PP and still AF free! Wahoo! I still take a pregnancy test every now and then to ease my mind lol

I have not had anymore spotting but I decided to check my CP today and it is high, soft and open. I have had 3 kids so I know it will feel a little open but should I be worried about it being high and soft? I didn't ever check CP while breastfeeding my others so I do not know how it should feel at this time but I do know it feels like it did when I was ovulating and TTC. I am starting to think my body is trying to ovulate and I was really hoping breastfeeding would keep my cycle away longer than this.

Same here! I've had one AF since having my daughter, but other wise I'm aunt flow free for almost nine months. So I take a $tree test on occasion to ease my mind.

Probably normal healing process.

That said I EBF'ed round the clock with my first and got first PP AF back at 3 1/2 months after baby was born! I wasn't too happy about that. It was a bit irregular the first couple times and then settled to normal after about 6 months PP.

I don't know what is going on. I hope it is part of the normal healing process but I have had a good bit of orange CM today. It has had a little bit of red but mostly orange. I hate wondering...if AF is coming back I wish it would just hit full force and quit making me guess and if it is not I wish this spotting would go away!
