major supply issues

Postby jessm » Fri Oct 26, 2012 7:51 am

I'm having major supply issues. My son STTN for about 10 days and after that my supply tanked. Now he suddenly stopped STTN and my supply hasn't improved, and I've had to give him bottles. It breaks my heart. I really want to nurse into toddlerhood and I'm afraid my body won't cooperate.

I am sorry for the trouble you're having. I had some supply issues around that time, due to my hormones shifting and AF starting in regularly. Could that be part of the problem for you? Here is a link to some similar posted questions on the La Leche League site. http://www.llli.org/nb/nbjulaug03p142.html

From what I understand, frequent nursing sessions, less stress, drinking like a gallon of water a day, taking adequate vitamins and getting enough protein and calcium/magnesium can help. Also fenugreek and Mother's milk tea.

Lots of water and oatmeal has been my savior a few times. Good luck. I know this is important to you.

Are you judging the supply issue on how much youre pumping?

Somewhat. He's been fussing at the breast at night, however that seems to have improved as of last night.

Sometimes DD will fuss at the breast, especially when she's gassy or super-hungry. Usually she just needs some time to settle and then she gets what she needs from me. I just hold her near my breast but not forcing her to eat and let her cry while trying to rub her back and verbally soothe, and she starts eating within 5 minutes in general. I hope that your supply is just taking a temporary dip, if it's even dipping at all, and I hope it picks up soon for you! :hugs:
