Thrush without white patches?

Postby mrsg2008 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 6:55 pm

Has anyone or your baby had thrush without any white patches? The last 2 days, my DD just screams when I put her to the breast. I can tell she's hungry, but it's a huge struggle to get her to eat. It really seems to me like she's in pain. I checked her mouth and my nipples, and I cannot see any signs of thrush. I also do not see any signs of teething, nor has she been drooling or anything else to suggest that. I called the nurse line today as she hadn't eaten in 6 hours, and would just cry hysterically every time I tried to feed her. The nurse said as long as she didn't have a fever and she was wetting frequently, she should be fine, and if she was still having a problem, to bring her in Monday. I have been getting her to eat pretty regularly after I called, but she still screams, pulls away, and fights eating, but then eventually will eat. Any thoughts or suggestions? It's so hard for me to see my poor baby in distress, especially when I can't figure out what's wrong! :(

Could she be congested? I only ask because my dd has been congested all week and hasn't eaten well at times, and screaming when I try to feed her every now and then. Hope you get some answers soon!

TBH, I have no idea how to tell if she's congested or not. Her breathing sounds normal to me.

Do you think she might have gas? That's what we discovered was the issue with Leah. She would totally be hungry and latch briefly, then break latch and scream. We discovered it by accident when she made a huge toot when I was trying to switch sides. Then she calmed down a little, so we worked some more out and she finally ate. I'm really hoping it's not thrush for you--something more simple would be nice!

I had the lactation nurse look at us--no thrush. She is back to normal as of Sunday. No idea what was wrong.

Kelli-no more gassy than usual. That was one of my first thoughts, too.

Well, I'm definitely glad there's no thrush and that she's doing better! What a relief!!!
