Tamiflu while BFing

Postby HawkeyeGirl18 » Sun Dec 02, 2012 8:58 pm

Des anyone know if tamiflu is safe to take while breastfeeding? I haven't got around to getting my flu shot yet this year and I'm pretty sure DS and I both caught the flu. He's been sick for about a week, but seems to be doing better. I started in with a fever last night that hit 102 today and am miserable. I'm super busy with grad school and everything else right now and can't afford to be sick like this. I know that tamiflu won't cure the flu, but if it helps me get better sooner, that would be great. I'm EPing now, so I guess worst case scenario I could just dump while I'm on it and use up some freezer stash. Anyone have experience with this?

I heard it was fine. I thought about taking it when DH had the flu as a precaution against DS catching it from me.

I'm currently taking it while pregnant so I would assume you can take it while nursing. There are risks to taking it while pregnant, I had to be swabbed to make very sure it was the flu before starting it. I was so sick though that I HAD to do something and my doctor highly recommended I do it. You also have to start taking it within 48 hours of symptoms starting for it to be effective according to my doctor.
