5 months

Postby litmajor » Sat Feb 02, 2013 9:03 pm

We hit 5 months breastfeeding today! She was EBF until a week and a half ago when we started introducing solids. I posted a picture of the formula samples that were given to us at the hospital on my FB to see if anyone wanted them, and someone commented that I might want to keep one "just in case", because her granddaughter had weaned herself at 7-8 months, or in case I get sick, etc. We haven't used a drop of formula thus far, not sure why that would change all of a sudden! But now there's a nagging voice in the back of my head that being confident about it will come back to bite me.. Ugh!

Congrats on making it to 5 months!

And I'm getting rid of all my formula samples, too. I got 3 canisters and a package of pre-measured pouches, and I'm giving them all away. I figure if DD hasn't needed any yet, we're ok. Plus we'll be starting solids once she starts sitting up on her own, so I'm not worried. :)

Congrats on the milestone!!

This is my 3rd breastfed baby and I've never used formula! I think you're probably ok to get rid of it. Do you have any milk pumped for those "just in case" times, like if you have to go somewhere without baby? If not, you'll probably either want some or keep the formula. I got a TON of formula this time around for some reason and I think I'm going to donate it to a foodshelf.

I never got samples and never had formula in my house! I had a few frozen bags of BM for emergencies. I'd just toss it. You can always obtain some formula if you really find you need it for an emergency, but sounds like you're doing great, so why bother hanging on to something you won't need? :)

Congratulations!!! I just donated all my formula samples to a local crisis pregnancy center. So many people said to keep them just in case too but I said no way! I think you'll do great. If you're worried about supply maybe you can pump when DD eats solids?

Thanks ladies! I'm rethinking my 12 month plan.. The idea of not nursing makes me sad.

I like the idea of a crisis center! My breastmilk stash is pathetically low, but I've started pumping more to build it up. Probably got 15 oz now.. Have to start somewhere, right?
