15 months!

Postby jessm » Mon Apr 01, 2013 6:35 am

Yesterday marked 15 months feeding my little guy! I can't believe I've made it this far, my original goal was a year of breast milk. It is crazy to me that with everything we went through that we still are going strong. I'm hoping he self weans by 2 because I don't want to tandem nurse and I want to TTC in September.

Congrats!!! We just hit two years and I am so hoping she will wean soon since I don't want to tandem either. I'm starting to lose hope, but I have 28 weeks to go, so it could happen. :)

mrsg- I had the same thing when he was younger. I got a lot of weird comments. However, I think when you are nursing your toddler, people know better than to say something. They probably don't say anything because they think I'm a nut, but whatever keeps their mouths shut. I have had a couple people ask when I would wean and I just say when he's ready.

Congrats, Jess!!! That's awesome!!

And you know, when people (family) would find out I was planning on nursing/nursing, they always seem to ask, "How long will you nurse?" with a look of slight disgust. People remember that Time (?) magazine cover with the kid on a chair nursing and think everyone who breastfeeds chooses to do so until their milk dries up, regardless of babies age. Just annoying! My MIL told me that she thinks anything over a year is weird!

Yes...mine has started keeping her mouth shut about it though. I think for the most part, once you pass the year mark, people know better than to make comments because they know you won't stand for it. A few people have asked when I'll wean and I usually just say when he's ready. He's not ready at all...you have to do what's right for your family and fudge every one else! i will say though, we don't NIP much any more, he is perfectly happy with a snack or his cup until we get home. Unless he's being a real crank and really wants it, we usually wait until we're home.

Congratulations!

I used to say I'd wean at a year, but now I think, what makes a baby all of a sudden magically done with nursing at a year? So we'll see what happens! I haven't gotten any weird comments about still nursing at 7.5 months. I'd probably give that person a piece of my mind if they said anything! ;)

Congratulations!

We also have had no weird comments. Family is very supportive, provided we don't go past one year. There have been a few comments from family about "Just don't nurse her until she's 3! I think that's weird". As if I should make my decisions based on what they think is weird..

My sister used me as an example in her anti-NIP tirade to a relative (sis is 18, btw), and that kind of annoyed me. She cited the fact that I fed DD in the car before going into a busy restaurant waiting area (no seats) that I was respectful and didn't believe in NIP, blah blah.. I made sure to make my feelings known next time I saw her. I was probably a little clueless at 18 too though, so I'll cut her some slack.

Congrats! We made it to 15 months, and then she self weaned over the course of a week. It was far more tramatic for me than her. lol
RE: Tandem nursing, I've read often that if you do get pregnant, often an older toddler will self wean at the time because there is (sometimes) a change in the taste/output of milk. Not always, some people can tandem nurse for eons, but its something to hope for. haha!
