18 months!

Postby jessm » Tue Jul 02, 2013 11:37 am

I can't believe I already reached the 18 month milestone. I always swore I would do it until he was 1, but until I actually started breastfeeding I definitely didn't see myself going past that. I can't really imagine weaning right now, he's not ready for sure and I don't know when he will be. But I guess I"ll find out!

Awesome-congrats!! I totally understand. I started with 6 months as a goal with my first, then a year, and then we hit a year and he was still every bit my baby and I knew I couldn't stop until he was ready. Now I'm pretty sure I'm going to tandem #2 & #3 which I never had any desire to do, but she's not weaning and I'm not gonna make her, so it is what it is. It's amazing how actually being a parent can change your perspective!

Way to go, mama! I think we'll be headed in that direction, too. We're approaching 11 months, and I can't see DD weaning anytime soon. I never considered BFing longer than a year until I started doing it, too. :)

Congratulations! 18 mos is my goal with my second son (he's 3 1/2 mos old). I made it to 16 mos with my first son.

Awesome! I totally agree about not wanting to go past one year but until you actually breastfeeding you don't understand the bond and relationship it brings. My husbands asks often if I'm stopping at a year an I'm just not ready. 4 more months is not nearly enough And he is beginning to get attatched :)

Question though-how often do you breastfeed now?

Congratulations! I agree with not really knowing until you are BFing- I always said I'd cut her off at a year, but she'll be 1 in 5 weeks, and I can't even imagine weaning by then. We're still nursing at least 4-5 times a day. I was willing to go longer a few months ago than I am now, but still no time soon.

We only nurse 2-3 times a day. If he is home with me he nurses a little more frequently because he nurses down for his naps. We nurse in the morning and before bed. Then on the weekends for naps. If he's cranky when I pick him up from daycare we nurse then because it instantly improves his mood.
