I just wanted to rave about cloth menstrual pads

Postby Cindy » Thu Feb 10, 2011 7:26 pm

I get such bad periods that my doctor had given me morphine to take for it...I used these pads and I went from that to just regular bad cramps. I couldn`t get over the change. Seriously, this is absurd the difference.

Interesting. Question: did you use regular pads or tampons before switching to cloth? I have endo and have AWFUL cramps, and I've read tampons can make it worse. But I hate pads. I've been debating between cloth pads and those diva cups, but I don't know if the diva cup will have the same effect as the tampon. :?

Wow, that's very interesting. I've been thinking about trying cloth pads, but I have a SUPER heavy flow, and I'm worried the cloth won't contain it. On my heaviest days I can soak through a heavy tampon and big pad in an hour. It's ridiculous. Also, I'm worried that after just one wear they'll be stained. I mean, it's blood, so how could it not be? How has your washing gone so far?

That was my first thought when I read this post- about concerns over staining. Blood is SO hard to get out and it seems like it would always have a stain?

Hey, I actually have a super heavy flow and had no leaking problems at all. And they were super comfy. I usually use both pads and tampons. Tampons if we are going somewhere with a pad in case of leaks, and just pads for around the house. I have endo too and tampons just make my cramps so much worse.

This period was a not overly annoying period. still here but I`m not even bothered

Thanks for sharing Cindy. I've been meaning to try some but haven't gotten around to it. I always say to myself " I have another month to get some" and never do. LoL. I have used the Diva Cup for a few years and I really like it but have been to afraid to try since having the baby.

What brand did you get? and how many?
And what's your wash rutine?

I have a pretty heavy flow, but I wouldn't say quite as heavy as previously mentioned...well, maybe, like one day it is.

I *love* my pads from Blossom Pads!!! I have hers, some from Tree Hugger, and some from another place on HC (I forget), but she seems to have gone inactive, last I checked. My Blossoms are PUL backed, and the rest fleece backed. I hear many who use cloth pads like the fleece on the bottom so they are breathable, but I get the PUL, since I have the heavy flow...I highly recommend the velour on top, too..feels so much better than just flannel!

And none of my pads are stained at all...in fact, a few of them (velour ones), it's like it has bleach spots (so weird?!). I just rinse mine out, and throw them in with my diapers, in the pail, and wash them with them.

I also have a diva cup that I use on my heaviest days...it's not the *most* comfortable, for me...so I only use it then, cause it's so worth it, not to have change out pads every 45mins to an hour on those days.

Ok, based on you ladies' good reviews, I just ordered some mama cloth! I bought mostly from Luna pads. I got the postpartum kit in apple blossom because my flow is so heavy.
Then I got another heavy pad and set of inserts in kaleidoscope.
I got the trial kit for $10 from Blossom pads just because it was too good of a deal to pass up, and I wanted to try a different brand.
If I like these, I may get some more!

You mean the intro kit from Blossom pads, right?

Here's the link to the postpartum kit I got from Luna, although it's not a super great deal or anything.

Anybody have this issue? I bought Fuzzi bunz pantiliners when I was pregnant. The darn things would spin around my underwear. I'd end up with the snaps touching me and the pad on the bottom within hours. Maybe it was the brand or maybe I was doing something wrong...who knows!

I think it might be that brand. I've gotten from several different stores on HC and haven't had that issue. :dunno:

I don't have that brand but I have never had that problem with the ones I use. I have heard other people say you should wear snug fitting underwear.

I use a diva cup and cloth and I **love** them both! Yes, mine are stained but I don't pre-soak or do any special washes because the stains just don't really bother me. I mean, who else really looks at my menstrual products ?
