prepping help!!

Postby karee » Mon Apr 04, 2011 6:51 am

Ok....bear with me as I think I will have a lot of questions here... I am just awaiting the arrival of my second baby early June and have never CD before. I have a decent stash but need some help with prepping. I have already prepped my prefolds so they are ready to go.

AIO's and pockets... I took the inserts out of the pockets.. Do these diapers only need washed once and ready to go?

I think i remember reading that covers just need washed once and they are good to go...?

Fitteds?

Can the pockets, AIO's and fitteds all go in the same load together to prep?

Now for inserts... Does it matter what the material is? I have some microfiber, hemp and bamboo. Can these all be washed together? and how many times would be good? Im pretty sure these need to be washed separately from the diapers to begin with but im sure one of you experts will tell me. Do the thirsties duo inserts need to be unsnapped during prepping?
One more thing....I do have another batch of prefolds that are a size bigger I might as well prep too while im at it...can i throw these in with the inserts?

I told you I had a lot of questions. Thank you so much for helping me out!!!

Ok....pockets and covers only need one wash.

Inserts such as microfiber need only one wash so I would wash them with the pockets and covers. Wash once then dry...or hang to dry.

Fitteds, hemp/bamboo inserts need several washes to become absorbent so you will wash them like you did your prefolds.

Hope that helps

I wanted to add the hemp (and possibly the bamboo?) will have some oils in them...I got a couple of hemp doublers and boiled them instead of washing/drying over and over. Put them in DS's night time dipe after boiling and drying once and worked great! In any case, you'll want to prep these oily materials separately from the other diapers!!! Happy washing!

I have never boiled my diapers/inserts but can see how that would really work faster. Plus its cheaper as far as water/heating bills are concerned :D

I've boiled my prefolds to prep them. I did two dozen an rotated them every 10 min in a stock pot. Takes a little bit of time and effort but you're right about saving money on the energy bill and water.

I'm lazy and prep by using hot water and a couple squirts of dawn. Then washes/rinses until there are no bubbles. I throw everything in together when I do this.

I just test them after they are prepped to make sure they don't bead up water on them.
