Prefolds and newborns

Postby Syrahfina » Tue Apr 05, 2011 10:44 am

So I tried using prefolds with DS from the beginning, but I could just never understand it, despite watching videos on YouTube! Maybe I just didn't find the right video to watch.

I did the tri-fold, but it was always too long and I ended up folding it down in the back.....but that seemed uncomfortable because there was this thick bulge back there.

Now I'm wondering if I should have folded it down in the front, but if I do that how do I prevent BF poo from escaping up the back?

Any tips would be great!

I used 2 premie pfs with a cover. That combo worked for a few weeks. It was never as nice as an aio or pocket though. I started my BGOS while they were still huge, but they worked so I didn't care. I could always get a good fit with the prefolds, I just never thought they looked comfortable on the baby.

I'm using the GMD ones since they are sized. The newborn ones fit my little girl really well, and we haven't had any problems with blowouts. We have found we get leaking if we're not careful about making sure the entire prefold is enclosed in the cover, but haven't had any poo leaks since figuring out the Snappi.

I've been using them since DS was 2 weeks old (he's 6 weeks now) and I've been folding them down in the front the whole time. We've had 0 leaks so far. As long as everything is inside the cover, you'll be fine :)

I would fold them down in the front if they are too big. Prefolds are just bulkier than pockets but they work very well with a good cover :D

Thanks ladies. I will give folding down in the front a try....don't know why I didn't think of that last time before I gave up with prefolds!

Are your PFs too big? Maybe get a smaller size? You can fold in the front OR the back. There are several folds too. The newspaper fold, jelly roll fold, bikini twist... I switch it up. Sometime I fold in the back and sometimes I fold in the front. My husband refused to use prefolds and only used fitteds, pockets or the AIOs.
