Help with yeast?!?

Postby MrsLewis907 » Wed May 11, 2011 9:09 pm

Baby Abi got a rash and my normal diaper-safe creams weren't touching it (CJ's BUTTer, which usually helps very quickly)...put her in disposables for a couple days with Butt Paste helped a *little*. A friend who's battled yeast for almost a year said it did in fact look like that. After it was cleared, I stripped her diapers, and now, 3 days later, her rash is back.

So what do I use to treat yeast on a baby? How do I know when it's gone, and how do I know I've got it all out of my diapers??? I never had this issue with the twins.

we battled this for a long while. I found this article to be very helpful

http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/YeastvsCloth.htm

I actually had to turn up my hot water heater to make sure my water was hot enough and i used NC bleach, you can also use regular bleach, like the article mentioned.

For her bum, when you put her in the bathtub, add 1c of apple cider vinegar to the water. This is a natural antispetic and yeast killer. You could also do Grapefruit Seed Extract. Add 15-20 drops to the bath.

You can use ACV and GSE to treat in the wash for the diapers as well. 1c of ACV during the rinse or 15-20 drops of GSE.

I made a wipes solution with GSE also. I did 1c of water to 15-20 drops. And then dipped in the wipes and wrung them out. It cleared up the yeast in less than a week.

Thanks!! Where can I find the GSE?? I will also have to get some ACV as well. I have an Appt for her with the doctor tomorrow just to make sure and figure if they prescribe her something I will hold onto it for in case I need it.

I picked it up at Whole Foods. But any health food store should have it.

The only way I managed to get rid of yeast was to use an antifungal on DS in sposies for awhile. It was the CVS brand of lotrimin, I think. Once the rash was gone, I bleached everything in hot, hot water. I don't think bleach should be your first line, if it's just a mild rash, though. Try what the others suggest and if you have the rash over and over again, THEN resort to bleach!

GL mama! Yeast can be a pain, but most of the time it's not the bad to get rid of!!!

Yeah, I second the lotrimin. It's awesome. But you'll have to use liners to potect your dipes.

I also battled recurring yeast for months last summer---antifungal cream worked---then I boiled all the diapers, inserts and wipes....that was a looooong process I hope to never have to repeat.

Good luck!
