Night time leaks.

Postby Susy07 » Tue May 24, 2011 7:14 am

We're leaking every single night over here. Almost zero leaks during the day, unless he's standing funny and it can seep out the leg. William still takes a bottle before bed and at midnight so I know the heavy peeing is part of the problem. (No I can't stop those at this point. :()If I get up with him in the night like 3 hours before we get up for the day, he's still dry. That extra 3 hours does him in. He sleeps on his belly and it all leaks out up the front, soaks his shirt and the bedding. Soooo tired of washing bedding.

I stripped several times with dishsoap. I've tried bleach. I've tried stuffing with more inserts (2 big and a small!) I've tried other diapers (grobaby and alvababy.)

Help!!

What do you use for nighttime? What do you stuff with? Have you tried different materials?

Microfiber will not hold Leah overnight. But If I do a trifolded flat that is wrapped around the infant mf insert from a BGOS and a hemp doubler. I use an econobum or wool cover.

I like to add hemp or bamboo because it holds more and absorbs slower so the mf will absorb the gush of pee when it first happens and then the hemp will slowly pull that moisture away and hold more longterm.

Our stash is 99% BGOS 3.0. I stuff with the microfibre they come with. Where could I get hemp or bamboo? What is the flat you use made of?

I would say amen to the hemp! We couldn't go a night without it! Now, if you dont have any hemp right now - if you have prefolds, it is very bulky, but 2 prefolds folded into 3rds inside a cover will not leak either. I use a prefold with a hemp doubler, or a fuzzi bunz with a hemp doubler as my nighttime diapers. No leaks here. Microfiber will not work for us for night. We have bamboo, but that doesnt do it for me. I also have a "midnight snacker" & heavy wetter & have had to stick with the hemp.

You could also wrap a pf around your 2 mf inserts. You can buy the hemp doublers online from a cloth diaper store. I know Cottonbabies sells some.

ETA: the flats are made of birdseye cotton. You can get them from Little Lions or Cottonbabies.

I use pocket diapers doubled stuffed with microfiber for my 19 month old and they hold up awesome! Maybe try something like that? I am not an expert on cloth diapers yet, but I was told bleach was a no no?

Thanks guys! I have to bleach to get detergent residue off. Somehow country save buildup gives him rashes. :(
And we've been using 2 large and a small insert at night. Even that isn't holding anymore. :(
I have a local AP group on facebook and someone is willing to sell me her hemp inserts, (not doublers, full inserts) 3 of them for 10 bucks! Def gonna try that. Hope it works. :)

Yup, microfiber alone would not hold us at all.. I had to add a hemp doubler or bamboo, or something else with it and it worked MUCH better

Nothing works for my guy except less milk...honestly! Thats the only thing that keeps him dry. We have used sposies and cloth and both leak when he sleeps on his tummy. I hate changing the bedding also.....can't wait until we get rid of these bottles!!

Yea I'm new to all this and my LO is still in sposies and i just wanted to add that lately he leaks every single night and it's because of his "drink" before bed, lol. So, maybe less milk or whatever before bed?

Fewer bottles is definitely not an option. Been there, done that, failed miserably. lol. But it sucks because you're right. It's exactly why he pees so much at night.

We went from a full bottle to half and it worked. Could you not limit the number of bottles but change the amount in each one? It may help
