Line dryers

Postby stefanielynn » Wed Jun 22, 2011 12:33 pm

I finally got my line up and hung all my prefolds to dry--wow! They dried quickly and the EBF stains are pretty much gone. BUT they are really stiff. I threw them in the dryer for about five minutes to fluff them up a little bit, but they still have the line dried feel to them. Just wondering what you all do about it (if anything). I don't want to use the dryer for too long since that would defeat the purpose (and effort!) of line drying.

I don't do anything. My baby just has stiff diapers on :D. I guess I don't worry about it. Shaking each one out hard several times before hanging helps a little bit, but not much. They're just going to be stiffer if you line dry. My little guy doesn't care either way.

You can add a little vinegar to the rinse cycle and it acts as a fabric softener, too. Then when you "fluff" them, they will be a little softer.

I also find if I put dryer balls in the dryer that they come out a little softer after being on the line.

Thanks for the tips! I put the freshly clean ones under the ones I hadn't used yet (I generally just toss them on top) and by the time I got to them, they had kind of softened up a little more. Strange. Baby girl doesn't seem to notice or care that they are a little rougher than they have been. But since we've always used the dryer, I'm used to that really soft feel!
