prepping diapers

Postby Aug05Dec11mommy » Fri Sep 16, 2011 3:38 pm

I am new to cloth and I have no clue how to prep my diapers prior to use. I have a mixed stash. Some new, some hand me downs. They are also mixed in the different types. I know I need t washthem a few times prior to use. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance!!

I would just throw everything in together to wash and then put everything in the drier except for covers. One wash should be enough.

The exception to this would be prefolds or hemp inserts. If they're new, they need to be washed and dried about 5 times to prep. You want to wash them separately from your other dipes at first because of the natural oils. Once they're prepped, you can start washing them with everything else.

Microfiber and Zorb just need washed once. Any natural fibers need washed 8-10 times to reach max absorbency. Cotton, hemp, bamboo, cotton velour, bamboo velour, etc.

I have a few AIO's also, I will wash the hemp inserts and prefolds together, but separate from the covers and AIO's. Is it ok to wash covers and AIOs together that are new?
