Replacing elastic

Postby stefanielynn » Sat Oct 08, 2011 1:25 pm

How do you know when it's time to replace the elastic in your diapers? I read people say their elastic is "shot" but how do you know? DD just poo'd and it came out one of the leg holes...is that an indicator that it's probably time to consider doing it? Sometimes if she pees a lot the legs get damp on the outside, too.

I'm sure this is a silly question, I just honestly don't know.

I bought some used CDs with shot elastic super cheap (and replaced it myself to have great usable CDs!). The diapers just laid flat - there was no gather at all around the legs and no stretch at all in the elastic there. Imagine what a CD would look like if there was no elastic around the leg holes and that is what they looked like. When the elastic is going downhill, the difference between the stretched and unstretched measurement of the leg holes will get less and less. You can pull on the elastic and try to feel how much strech is left in it, and compare it to a new/good one.
