CD'ing a NB

Postby mamay » Fri Feb 24, 2012 2:47 pm

I've never done it and am going to do it with this one. I don't have alot of extra money this time around and quite frankly flats scare me. Lol. So what do you suggest? NB sized fitteds?

I like kissaluvs size 0s with thristies covers best. With DD I used a mix of these, some newborn mutts (great but very small), and some AIO's which I hated. Also a few prefolds, which are actually really great for newborns too. DH won't do prefolds though. I'll be using the same stash for this little guy arriving in April, (despite them being all pink) because I'm low on money and they outgrow the newborn stuff so fast.

I used NB prefolds (GMD) and a few fitteds for nighttime. The Thirsties Duos were my favorite covers, since they fit both NB and small.

This is what I did also. PFs are easy and the cheapest option. DS is 15 months and still easily fits into the Thirsties DUO covers size 2,so 2 sizes will get you til potty training!

So how do the prefolds work? They are the ones that just lay in the cover, right? How many do I need for a NB stash- because we are tight on cash I will probably only need enough to do laundry daily or every day and a half.

Prefolds are really reasonably priced...less than $30/dozen at greenmountaindiapers.com. You can just lay them in the cover, but with the EBF poops they work much better if you fold them around baby. Snappis are great for that--they are much easier to get around baby than you think they will be! I had about 30 newborn diapers, 24 prefolds and 6 fitteds, and that allowed me to wash every other day.

I'd do the infant pfs with covers. I had mine left over from my DD but used her pink covers on my DS. I had 24 pfs and 6 covers. I washed every other day. I also supplemented my pfs with 7 fitteds and I had 8 aios. But I bought them used and didn't realize the elastic was wearing out so they leaked and I didn't use them more than a few times.

I had 24 PFs in NB size and 24 in small. I don't know if your baby will be bigger or smaller, but my LO was just over 8 lbs at birth and only used the NB PFs for a few weeks. Then it was on to the smalls. Still, I found it worth while to have them because they make great doublers in pocket diapers later on, and I used mine as burp rags also!
