Watermarking and names?

Postby blue-eden » Thu Apr 15, 2010 12:24 am

Ok, I don't have a business or anything, nor am I anywhere NEAR good enough for that! But I think I should at least watermark images, right?

Do you just write "Do not copy" on yours?
Or did you come up with a pretty name and logo?

Any creative ideas for me? :)

I asked this same question a while ago and I still don't watermark. It's silly but I almost feel like if I watermark it's like telling everyone that I think my photos are so good that someone would want to steal them LOL When really we probably should watermark because unfortunately there are lots of reasons that people steal photos besides the quality of the picture.

As for how to watermark, I think it just comes down to personal preference. If I wasn't trying to start a business I'd probably just put 'Do copy' o 'Copyright (insert name)" rather than go to the trouble of designing a logo.

Did you see my watermark? That was an action from ILP. And it's super easy, when you're done sharpening for web, you just go File, Place, find your watermark, and then put it where you want.

I don't always watermark my own stuff, but when it's somebody else's pictures I am going to make sure I always do when I post them online, because I would hate my someone else's baby pictures to get stolen because of me. :?

I want to get a logo or watermark but I feel as if I not anywhere near good enough. But at the same time, I'd like them to have a logo for safety purposes and because I hope to eventually make this a career.

Even before I had a business, I watermarked my images. They're mine. I want people to know they're mine. :)

I created a custom brush in PS and it makes adding my watermark a piece of cake.

This is my current watermark:

And yes, those are Manolo Blahnik shoes. *swoon*

ETA: I used to put it in the middle of the picture, and then once in a bar across the bottom, but I felt like it detracted from the picture and decreased the value of my work somehow. I know it is easy to crop, but I just feel like it looks better. ;)

I've been trying of water marks too. I'm going go with a little logo and then KB Photography. Right now my shots are poop. But someday I'll be good. Besides like Charlotte said I still want every one to know it's MY shot. Even if it looks like poop to me  :D

Oh crap! Edited to add this. I love this chicks blog's on free brushes. I'm thinking of using them as part of the water mark. http://www.pixelsandicecream.com/

Also last thing I'm a total dork but what is ILP?

ILP= ILovePhotography.com. It's a forum for photographers. It's great. I lurk there A LOT.

If I'm wrong someone correct me LOL
