I have just started really getting into photography. I got a Canon T1I when my son was born and have finally started really putting work into creating great shots. I currently have the 50mm 1.8 that I use most of the time and know the 1.4 is even better and will probably get that. I am just curious as to what most of you use to shoot your portrait/family shots? Thank you!

Nifty Fifty is definitely my favourite. I also have the 1.4. Love it! I recently bought a 90mm Macro and it's great for portraits too.

You know, I didn't even know this board had people on it! LOL!

Ok, the 50 1.4 is basically always on my camera - Love it, worth every penny.

Also love the 85mm 1.4.

For those of you loving the 50 mm 1.4, whatchya think about the 1.8 as it is sooooooo much more affordable? Especailly for us newbies?

I use the 50 mm 1.8 for everything. I would like the 1.4 but there is a HUGE price difference. I am going to buy the 85mm 1.8 any day now, I think it'll be a great outdoor portrait lens.
