cake smash tips

Postby coastieschick » Tue Jan 25, 2011 8:53 am

I am taking pictures of a friends daughter's cake smash. I was wondering if y'all had some tips? I want to shoot outside since I am just starting and I know that will give me better light, but I looked at a bunch of pictures online and can't decide what I like best (need to talk to her and see if she has ideas)

but these are what I found

park on blanket, like picnic
park on wood floor (looked cute but why is there a wood floor outside!?)
park just on grass
solid background/how would you keep it from bunching when kid is moving around so much?

with or without tutu

there's just so much to decide & we live at the beach so that could be an option???

I don't have any props or backgrounds to the easier the better...
...I'd really appreciate any tips y'all can give me! THANKS

I've never done an outside cakesmash but only because I live in MN and haven't photographed any summer babies! I think an outside cake smash would be fun. I like the idea of being at a park and maybe on a blanket. Possibly without tutu just because it might be a bit much to have the cake, trees, blanket, and tutu.
