Nikon D3000???

Postby coastieschick » Tue Jul 05, 2011 6:26 pm

Anybody have this camera or have suggestions for a good beginner DSLR that can (hopefully) last into a professional camera? Right now I have an Olympus E-410 that I bought off of Ebay and I hate it!!!

I sell cameras for a living right now as I try to get my photography business going. The 3000 is a bit outdated, so I would try for the 3100 if not the 5100. The 3100 has a much better sensor, better low light, and better focusing. The 5100 has the exact same sensor as the expensive 7000, just not as much built in of choices and a plastic body. It also does even better in low light than the 3100 and the focusing on it is a bit quicker, too. Plus if you're interested in it, and some are, some aren't, the 3100 and the 5100 have 1080p video. Plus live view of course. The 3000 has no live view.

I bought mine for the live view and I never use it, but it has such a delay that might be part of the reason why. Here are my issues with my camera and maybe that would help y'all point me in the direction of one I'd be happy with...

It takes GREAT sharp/crisp/photos outside - most of the time
Inside- it takes FOREVER to focus & I loose a lot of shots of my son that way
it SUCKS in low light
When I use the flash over 1/2 the time it starts strobing, while its focusing I guess???

So I guess my main things are the flash freaking out, the fact that I have to use the flash b/c I can't get a decent low light photo, and the auto focus SUCKING...

thanks, figures that camera would be outdated though since its the cheapest one I can find!

I had the D90 and just bought the D700 a few days ago. I really love it!! I've heard good things about the D7000.

I have the D3100 and it's awesome. It's my first DSLR and I think it's a great beginner cam. It comes with lots of great features and even has a guide inside the camera itself. There are great packages at costco or best buy for it under $7-800.
