Pros, where do you get your photo finishing done?

Postby Kendra plus 2 » Thu Mar 13, 2008 4:16 pm

For those of you who do this for a living (or at least seriously), where do you get your digital images printed? I've been asked to shoot 2 weddings this summer for some co-workers and I need to get my ducks in a row regarding pricing. I want to figure out what to expect in terms of *my* expenses.
I don't want to charge them a lot, they are my first 'professional' jobs and I will use them to build my portfolio, but I also want to make a profit. Any input will be much appreciated!

We use http://www.millerslab.com/ . They are VERY nice and pretty good as far as pricing. They do an excellent job and even get work back to you in about 2 to 3 days by free FedEx. Highly recommend them.

White House Custom Color and ACI. LOVING ACI lately for their saturated colors and seemingly sharper prints.

Most of the labs mentioned above are great--I have worked with all of them. However, Millers and WHCC require you to have a business license and a tax ID.

mpix.com is the consumer end of Millers--they use pro equipment, but you don't have to be a pro to order from them. Their machines are great, their techs are great, and their prices are great. They would be my first recommendation to serious shutterbugs.

They asked me for it when I opened my account 10 or 11 years ago. Maybe they don't now...but they should since they don't charge tax on their orders.

Maybe it is just because I live in California....California is backwards in just about everything.

Or maybe it is because I am on an open account where I get a monthly statement rather than getting a bill per order?

I guess it doesn't really matter...they are all great labs.
