24-70mm lens?

Postby booboo » Tue Apr 22, 2008 9:30 am

Anybody have a 24-70mm lens? I am reading a book on child/infant photography, and that is the lens that the photographer seems to favor (along with his 50mm).

Thoughts?

I'm getting one but it's a Tamron 2.8 version. My uncle has the same lens and raves about it!

You could probably get one that is cheaper by getting a smaller aperture. If you aren't shooting low light stuff, you could probably get away with a smaller one. We're getting the 2.8 one because we shoot weddings and a lot are in low light.

My fav baby lens is a 50mm 1.4. Its light, quick, and works great in low light, plus fixed lenses are much cheaper than zooms. I also really like my 85mm 1.8 for outdoors. I have a wide angle zoom (18-55mm ) but I hardly use it for children or portraits.

I think the 24-70 will be a good investment for you in the long run. It is pricey, but it is a great lens and one that is an essential tool to 95% of the pro photographers I know. Try FredMiranda.com you can probably pick up one used for cheap. :)
