Soft Boxes

Postby charlotteb » Thu Aug 14, 2008 11:59 am

The subject of soft boxes came up in another post. While learning a little about them myself, I came upon this website that tells you how to make your own soft box.

Always willing to perform a little experiment, I followed their directions, and here are my results!

BTW, I apologize for the pics of myself. They're a good representation of my "New-mom-no-shower-no-makeup-never-sleeping" look. ;)

It didn't necessarily produce better pictures EVERY time, but in general, the lighting is much more even and the flash is less harsh. And the shadows produced were generally pretty nice.

So it was a fun little experiment. And a semi-decent temp fix until you can afford a real, quality soft box!

Was that a lot of work? I thought maybe I would make one and then I started looking over the instructions and it seemed a bit overwhelming. How long did it take you to make?

There really wasn't anything to it. I probably did it in less that 30 minutes while the baby napped. They make it out to be such a tedious thing on the website, but it really wasn't for me.

Wow, you are amazing to be able make a softbox from those instructions! I'm not a do-it-your-selfer person without a picture guide to follow. Can you take a pic of what your softbox looks like?
