Well a 5D is a lot better but also REALLY pricey. In November, we're planning on getting a couple 40Ds and a couple lenses. I would like a 5D but not willing or can shell out the dough for it and we can do just as well with a 40D.

Oh and we'll be upgrading from the XT...

NEITHER! Buy a NIKON! lol.

Naw, I like what ive seen from both, though the 5D is a total beast. If i ever venture to the dark side of owning a canon, id prolly go with it, for its durability alone.

LOL, nah, I have too much invested in my Canon lenses!! Plus, when I retire my current XT, I am giving it to DH, so I want him to be able to use my future lenses too!

yeah, IS is in the lens, since not all lenses need it.

If you can afford it, definanly the 5d... I like to buy stuff im not likely to outgrow. Also the 5d is pretty weatherproof and much more durable, i actually considered this until i found a good deal on the d200 Nikon. Ive seen you do lots of outdoors stuff, and especially being in Alaska, you should consider what kind of conditions youll be shooting in. I really like having to not worry about having my cam wet by the snow, lake water, or a 5 year old splashing in a waterfall.
