Photo snobs on flickr

Postby booboo » Sun Aug 24, 2008 9:59 pm

grrrrrrr *rant*!!!!

I went to the Canon DSLR forum to ask a question about the autofocus on my camera and got hit with several rude comments..... what jerks!! Seems like flickr is just full of rude photo snobs.... people who think they are such 'hot $hit', and then get a kick out of belittling people who know less then them and are *gasp* asking for advice and trying to learn!!

Just mad because somebody told me I shouldnt call myself a professional and to RTFM (read the f*ing manual)

Dang, I never said I was the best (because Dee is ), but I am trying to be MY best!

That's ridiculous! I'm sorry.   I find everyone in the natural light child photography group (I think Dee belongs to that one!) that I'm in to be really nice and very supportive for the most part. You should join that one if you haven't already!

I've seen a lot of snobby people on there and that's why I often don't ask questions on the other groups I belong to. To me, photography is an art and it is all about what you want to see in your finished product. It is always great to get C&C and I always take that to heart. But at the end of the day, it's all about how you see and, and of course, how your clients see your photography.

There are plenty of "professionals" I've seen who take pictures that I personally wouldn't pay money for. Our wedding photographer charged an insane amount of money and my wedding pictures were very dissapointing. I was very angry about that.

You are doing a good job and you are only going to get better, so tell all of the to shove it!!!

Thats one of the reasons i dont participate in flickr any more... that and me and a few friends of mine got photos of our kiddos stolen and they ended up on some foriegn porn site. 8O

but its like that on any forum, just beware. So sorry you had such a bad run in, people can be so stupid sometimes.

Same here, that's why I stopped going into the forums on Flickr. A friend of mine also got pics stolen off there. So now anytime she posts, she has a watermark across the images.

Oh Cass....CONGRATS on Avalea! She's beautiful! :)

Erica, first of all, flickr is overloaded with know-it-all snobs. Don't listen to them! You take beautiful pictures and what's the whole deal with the word "professional" anyways? I know people that call themselves "professional" b/c they have been in the business for a while but really stink at taking pics. I haven't been near as active on Flickr either for awhile since I've seen so many people who joined groups and were new to photography at the same time I was....but now they think their poo doesn't stink. Whatever. Screw them. We'll just hang in our own little photography world here on TWW ;) I agree with Callumsmom, there are a few good groups, but there are still some stinkies everywhere you turn.

...and BTW....I am FAAAARRRR from the best!!!! I'm flattered that you said that, but I'm just lucky b/c I'm bound to get a good shot out of the hundreds that I take LOL!!! ;)
