ok, so I'm not a "nutcase"!

I'm also having problems even thinking about going to work 9-5 job of some sort because other than one year after college, I've always been working out of home with flexible schedule though, at some point working 70hrs a week or more. I was a real estate broker and did pretty good and then the market went to hell as we know and I went from good income to no income. So, not being my own boss is a very strange thought for me!

Maybe we can all win a lottery and not have to think about any of this ever again? :D

I was working 40-50 hours a week - 7am-5pm. I just can't do that again after being a SAHM since June. The summer was great and it is so nice putting the kids on the bus in the morning and being home when they get home.

It is worth it for me b/c most of the jobs I have been trying to get are only paying minimum wage, no insurance, and only part time! I was make only a few dollars higher a hour than regular teaching, and with the way the economy is , they have been laying off teachers left and right! I have been on unemployment for almost 2 years! I am going to try it and see how it works! I was more talking about how to handle daycare. I know what you mean though, but between me and DH we should be fine.

I am happy for you. It is hard to find jobs lately. I am not wanting to return to work, but I have been looking for a job. There are just none that will pay enough to make it worth it for me. With 3 kids it is harder. During the school year it was $100 a week for the baby and $300 a month for before/after care plus transportation ($100) for the older kids ($800 a month). During the summer it was $100 a week for the baby and $160 a week for the older kids ($1040 a month).

How many babies are doign something new everyday? It seems in the past few Vivian has been doing so much more from imitating people to saying new things. This morning I was looking in the frig and I said "Vivian we are out of cheese" and she responded with "eese". Then later she and DH were playing with a stuffed dog. He was pretending to bark and she started trying to make the same barkign sound. She is imitating every thing. Tonight I was telling DS not to do something and then she walked up to DS and babbled like she was repeating what I just said. One day DH tapped me on the butt and then Vivian came up and did it too. This is just a few of the things she has started doing. She is getting so smart.

The cost of daycare is the job killer for me so that's why I was asking if it's worth it. Living in Chicagoland, I'd be paying a minimum of $150/week for unlicensed, unreliable child care and at least $250-$400/week for good licensed daycare, so it would need to be one good paying job to make it worth it. As for before and afterschool care, that will be a killer too. About $400/kid/month and in the summer it's almost the same cost as little kids' daycare.

Wow,that is a lot! I can see especially how it adds up if you have more than one child! We will be paying $115 a week, which does add up! But the daycare is open until 6 pm. I don't know what I am going to do once she starts school yet, going to cross that bridge when I get there  I think at the daycare I am going to put her in it is $50 week for after school and $150 week for summertime.

I totally agree that daycare is through the roof compared with what wages we make....and to find someone outside a licensed daycare facility that you actually trust is ridiculous! My SIL had to find a new provider six weeks after school started (she's a teacher) because her baby was 'too high-maintenance' than what the lady realized! 8O So she scrambled and found someone she's really happy with.

wow! I hope Madeline don't turn out that way! She is a momma's baby! I wish I had somebody to keep her like a parent or friend! All my parents and his work! Most of my friends do too!

WTG madeline!! I also have a friend that was a teacher, but quit to watch children...she loves it, but I can imagine trying to find someone especially when grandparents/friends all work. TTC, did you say you started a job or are looking for one? I wish you the best of luck either way!

Anyone doing anything fun for St. Patty's day? I'm taking Ian to get his 18 mo. pictures/Easter pics tomorrow. Hope he's in good spirits...

Stace- I have one!!!!! :) I start training today, even though the kids don't start until like the first week in April! It is a brand new program!
They said Madeline cried more than she did yesterday, and only took a 30 min nap but they said she did eat good! She has been coughing and congested but no fever so I am trying to do everything(tylenol, breathing treatments, humidifier, vitamins, nasal spray/suction) for her not to get worse! My DH is taking her today! I laid everything out for him b/c if I let him dress her , there is no telling what she would go to daycare like!

Madeline has had a rough couple of days at daycare! I am glad tomorrow is Friday and I get to spend the weekend with her!!!!!!!!!! I just know it is going to be heck going back on Monday!!!!! She is also half sick too: cough, runny nose, congested! My DH is taking her to the doctor in the morning b/c he don't have to go to work until 2. But since she don't have fever, they won't give her anything! I hope by the end of next week, things will be better! I know it is hard on her, especially her not feeling good, but I HAVE to do this training. I feel bad, I have  every night after I get her to bed b/c I have some of her breathing treatments left, so I have tried that and some other things(nasal drops/suction, humidifier, cough medicine(left from last time she had RSV). to see if she will get better. She hates it and it breaks my heart! I feel so bad !
Sorry so long and dragging on, I just had to get it off my chest!

Hey girls! Will make this quick as I'm still in pain from my c-section but just so you know :-) ... had our baby boy on Monday, the 15th - 6lbs 2oz and 18inches. Named him Peter Jay. Just like Nic, he was also born three weeks early. I guess I'm not meant to go full-term. So much for scheduled c-section on the 26th :-). Will be back with details when I feel better and most importantly when I have some sleep so I can think straight
