I read in Baby Whisperer that starting too early can cause that but IDK.

we started solids at 5.5 - 6 months and he is very picky. he has a milk allergy so its made him afraid of food so he wont try the unfamiliar.

I think some of it has to do with babies/toddlers and control. They start to learn they have control over things in their environment and food seems to be one of the easiest things for them to manipulate. My mother told me when I was a baby I ate all the solid veggie purees..but I grew up to be a very picky eater.
