I am in the same boat. There is an agency out there where they allow couples to "adopt" the embies and it can be an "open adoption" if you would like. I think I am going to go that route, because I hate to see them donated for testing (although that is for a greater good), but I would love to help someone out who cannot have any children, or even make embies at all.

it's a tough and personal decision. What is right for someone else may not be right for you.

Good luck in your decision.

We adopted donated embryos and so thankful for this couple who decided to do so!!!!!!
We have their health history files and if any of the parties have some changes in their health history we have to let our middleman (clinic) to know. And keep updated them if we move.
I am so thankful for this couple! I am do grateful every day!
It took us about 5 years: 7 IUI's, 2 IVF's, 1 FET, 2 M/C's and finally pregnant after embryo adoption and FET! DS born May 2011
Pregnant again after FET. Due in November 2014!

You might check out miracleswaiting.org if this hasn't been suggested already. You get to choose who tries with your embies and request updates many people who want to adopt embryos feel more comfortable knowing the bio parents. I know this is a hard decision and my husband and I had to have an option for left over embryos before we started our first cycle and this is what we decided we would do.

I was torn about what to do. My husband was dead set against donating them because he couldn't stand the thought of our kids out there running around somewhere and not knowing them. We have 1 yr old twin DDs through IVF and a 1 month old DD. I couldn't stand the thought of destroying the embryos but in the end that is what we decided. I usually wear the pants in the relationship and get the final say but my husband was VERY stern on this issue. I cried when we went into the office to sign the paper work. I remember all the pain I felt sitting in that office going through the treatment thinking I might not have a family. Then I cried because of the fact I was destroying the embryos. If I could do it all over again I'm not sure what I would do...

For anyone else facing this decision I'd like to say that I would not be pregnant today without donated embryos. We had a contract that separated the embryos and any resulting children from their bio parents it stated that we accepted all responsibility. I am going to be a Mommy because some couple trusted that if these Embryos are meant to be children they will become someones babies and if they are not the little hearts will not begin to beat. We found our family through miracleswaiting.org as with any life decision you have to choose the option you can live with. I thank God everyday that my baby's bio parents chose the donation option over destruction. Hope this helps.
