How long do you plan to wait before TTC#2?

Postby Twinklebug » Wed Apr 14, 2010 1:09 pm

Dh and I were blessed to just have twins from our first IVF, so we are not at all ready to have anymore right now. But we have 3 frozen embies and are planning to do another cylce at some point. I'd like the babies to be less than two years apart, but just looking for some opinions on this one.

DH and I may just not prevent starting when the twins are about 6 months, but I'm not counting on conceiving naturally since we tried for 18 months for #1.

So my ? is: If you plan to try for another baby via IVF, how long to you plan on waiting? Any moms whoe were able to conceive #2 using frozen embies? How long did you wait before doing FET?

Our plan after our (IVF) twins were born was to go back to the RE when they were about 2. The RE & my OB said it was "highly unlikely" we could get pg on our own, so we were already sure we'd be doing another IVF cycle.

Turned out, they were wrong & when the twins turned 2, we had a 2 mos old!

We conceived from 1 IVF ICSI embie and had none left to freeze, so we're going to ttc naturally asap after he's born even though there isn't much chance of it happening, but you never know!

We'll have to save up to pay privately if we need another lot of IVF to conceive so that'll take a while!

I would have planned more like a 3 year gap ideally.... lol. We didn`t bother with protection after Ailyn`s birth though, because it took 18 months of clomid/injects/IUI to get pregnant with her and so I didn`t think I realistically had to worry. Oops.

At first we said we wanted to start trying right away. Now we are thinking 18mos-2 yrs. We want to have time with our baby and enjoy every minute of him. I am scared that it will be hard again to get pregnant but 2 years will give me the time I need to lose the weight(i lost weight and was on metformin for my PCOS and we concieved our Declan after 2 years IF) :)

Hopefully God has plans for another one for us but not too soon :)

Our DS is 2.5 mos old from our 2nd try at IVF. I'm 35 so we dont plan to wait long to start trying again, although we are really hoping it will happen naturally this time, we are not using anything to prevent it. Dont know if we can afford another IVF again, had to pay out of pocket for the first two. But I really want another baby, hopefully a little girl. I would like a few more months to go by though cause I dont want there birthdays to be in the same month, preferably atleast 2 months after ds.

Between children, if no multiples. I wouldn't mind starting again asap. Not trying but not preventing sort of thing if I start ovulating on my own.
But if my body goes back to not working, then I think DH would want us to wait at least a year or 2.

#1 took 3 years, 4 chemicals and lots of heartache to get, but our little Zoe was born 8/8/12
#2 took a little more than a year, random irregular cycles, Oren born 3/9/15

Congrats on your babies! For us, it took just over 4 years TTC including a good year of fertility treatments and we were waiting on AF to arrive to do the last test our Dr wanted before going forward with IVF. DH and I have already decided that pending a vaginal delivery without complications for me or baby, we'll not prevent for probably the first year since I want to BF and we'll start timing BD and stuff when AF arrives but not pursue IF treatments until baby weans itself...

OMG Egray-I am having the same dilemma! DH and I would love to have one more, but two sets of twins is going to be a challenge! :o Of course, I will be happy with whatever God decides, but I'm def. going to speak to my Re about percentages of twins, and what he thinks we should put back. We have 3 frozen, so I think we're going to that 2 and see how they do..but I want to see what the dr recommends since he's the expert. We're going for our consult on Nov 9 th :) We hope to do our cycle sometime January through March depending on what testing I have to redo, etc... It is alittle harder to schedule all those pre IVF visits with the twinkies to think about !

Twinkle: I wouldn't mind having another set of twins (I think I am super mom) but I wouldn't want to carry another set! I ended up with Pre E and hemmoraghed (sp) after my section. I almost died, I don't want to go through that again when I have babies at home to worry about KWIM? Scares the hell outta me.

If I was guaranteed a easy delivery I would go for twins, but goodness knows there are no guarantees!

I have been thinking about this issue more and more lately, I don't know why! I had twins in September. I have frozen embryos and I think that's why I'm thinking about this, because I want to give those a chance and it's driving me crazy knowing we have them (my girls came from a frozen transfer so I can't help but think I have at least one more baby frozen still)...but I want to make sure my girls are at a good age for when we bring a new baby home...anyone know what a good age is? It'd be nice if they were old enough to be helpful! And like Erin, I have the dilemma of how many embryos to transfer...I wouldn't mind having twins again but don't want another twin pregnancy, if that makes sense!

Our dd is 17 months old and because of my age and endometriosis, we wanted to start right away. Our dd was born in July '09 and I was told I could start ttc in January '10 (doctor wanted to let my uterus heal because I had a c-section).
We actually waited until April and had another lap (found stage III endo) and had to do acupuncture and chinese herbs to get my cycle regulated. Then we went back in September to try naturally while my re monitored me and we got our :bfp: on the first try when it took us 2 years to conceive our dd.

**We did try clomid, injectables and one IVF cycle that we canceled after day 3 of stims. None of the fertility treatments worked for us. The endometriosis was the cause of our fertility issues. We say God, our doctor operating on me, acupuncture, chinese herbs and lots of prayers was what worked for us.

This will be our last baby and we are happy and blessed.
