Success with IUI after Pituitary Adenoma Dx

Postby Lisa1979 » Fri Jan 18, 2013 10:35 am

Hi all! I'm new to this forum and this is my first post ever. I'm not sure where to even begin. So I guess I can tell a little of my story. I hope that's okay to do...
My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a long time. I threw away my birth control when we got married May 2004 and we passively tried for several years. When that didn't result in a pregnancy, we went to see an RE (actually 2 different RE's and a regular endocrinologist) and over the course of many visits and the span of 2 years, we found out several things: 1)my husband has retrograde ejaculation 2) I may have PCOS and 3) I have a prolactin-secreting pituitary adenoma. Very, very long story short...we had like 8 IUIs, 1 IVF fresh, and 2 FETs (none resulting in pregnancy), before discovering the pituitary adenoma and treating it. After this dx and tx, we got pregnant on our second IUI cycle! I found out last week and I was SO excited, but that elation didn't last long. My first beta was 126 and 3 days later it was 261, which was great, but the third beta taken this past Tuesday (1/15) only went up to 299. The RN I spoke with did not sound hopeful and asked me to come in this morning for an ultrasound and more blood work to see what the HCG level is doing. The ultrasound was rather fruitless, the RE saw what he thought was a gestational sac in the uterus, but it was small and hard to see and he thinks the embryo has stopped growing. I'm still waiting on the HCG results, which I should get later this afternoon, but I am so, so sad. I have been waiting forever to get pregnant and now that I am, this happens. Ugh!

**update**
So I just got the call from the RE's office and my HCG has dropped to 94 :(
They want me to stop my Endometrin right away and said I should miscarry by this weekend. I am so sad, but grateful to know that I can get pregnant. I guess we'll start trying as soon as we can.
Can anyone tell me what a 5-6 week miscarriage is like? The RE's office said it would be like "a very heavy period". Thanks.

Thank you. I'm hoping this process goes quickly and we can start trying right away.
