Links in posts?

Tue Dec 18, 2012 11:29 am

This isn't really a technical issue, more of a question/complaint.

I've noticed the past couple of days that certain words in everyone's posts are being turned into links (to ads I assume). I have to say, I'm not crazy about it. I find it distracting and worry that it's decreasing privacy. Would love to hear more about this from a mod or someone who know more about it.

...and with this post I see that it's even turned my chemical pregnancy in my siggy into a link. This I find offensive. I've gond from not being crazy about it to finding it offensive, and something that could potentially send me away from using TWW.

Hi Meg,

The owners of TWW were experimenting with different sources of advertising. Thankfully, the experiment with the text links ads is over, and they will not be pursuing that type of advertising. I had another complaint similar to yours, and I passed that along to them last night, and the owners seemed to understand our concern. It had done something similar in my signature, turning "Turner Syndrome" into a link. But thankfully, this advertising will not be pursued and has been pulled from the site.

Thanks for your feedback!

Thank you so much Kara! It really felt like an invasion of privacy, and using the users info to advertise is just kind of tasteless. I'm glad the owners see that and are discontinuing it. I understand they need to try to make money off of the site, but that was not the way to do it.
