I typically use vinegar and water to clean my hardwood floors, but does anyone know of a really good product that works better? I want them to really shine.

I am really interested in this. We just bought our house and have hardwood under the carpets that we plan to restore in a few months, but I have NO idea how to take care of them.

I used to use Murphy's Oil Soap until my hardwood floors were refinished and the guy that did them (little old Romanian guy that I love!!) told me over and over again to only use vinegar and water. I have still used Murphy's Oil Soap a few times in the last 5 years (for the smell of it!) but my flooring guy insists that with Murphy's Oil Soap you will end up with buildup on the wood.

I think that if you really want them to shine that you have to get them buffed and get a shiny topcoat put on.

Urrrrgghhhh. We've had our hardwood floors for 15 months now. Honestly, I just dust mop them most of the time... I've used a Swiffer mop with the wood floor formula maybe three times.

This isn't helpful. I'm just confessing my failings as a housekeeper. As soon as my daughter starts crawling, I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune.

Haan steam mop is the Best!! Keeps my floors clean and bacteria free…which is what I need with a toddler, a baby and a dirty dog!!

Coming back in to say... I just hand-washed my floors with warm water and a little bit of dish soap. I worked around the house with a bucket of soapy water and a bucket of clear water to rinse. I'd ring the rags out really well so they were barely wet, so the floor wouldn't get soppy wet.

They're pretty darn shiny.

The problem with just vinegar and water is that there's nothing to dissolve grease in that mixture.

I have a floor steamer too that I think does a great job. If I want to go the chemical route, I like Orange Glo - it smells so good!!

We just ripped up our carpet about 2 weeks ago and I used Murphy's!!! I love the smell of it but I'm addicted because if my house doesnt smell like that I want to keep putting it on and I was told by my SIS who has hardwood that you should only do it once a week so you dont warp the wood from the water!!

Good luck.....I"m having a hard time keeping the dust off and I have to sweep it everyday....lol.

I love my wood floors!

I typically use Murphy's Oil Soap, but I also have a Shark Steam Mop. It works GREAT on my hardwoods. And no drying them after!

Bruce hardwood cleaner. We have bellawood floors and swiffer, orange glo and steam moos void the warranty. They are great on hardwood that you install and finish but theyy will ruin prefinished hardwood. I've heard good things about bona too.

Never heard of Bruce. I'll have to look into that one. I started using Murphy's after hearing these responses and I like it a lot. I still use vinegar for in between cleaning and disinfecting. I would love to have a shark steam mop. I've heard such good things about them.
