What did you do to help your colic baby??

Tue Jul 03, 2012 5:57 pm

This is our 1st & our son is colic. He's 7 & 1/2 weeks and we've tried everything, biogaia, gripe water, oval, gas massage (3 times a day), bicycle, chiropractor. It's seems the chiro & a mix of the above work...sometimes.

Our baby loves to be outside & baths & we give loads of tummy time after eating or just in general.

What did you do to that helped your colicky baby & when did he/she outgrow it. It's breaking my heart

I'm so sorry. My DD was colicky but grew out of it pretty quickly, my DS (15 weeks) was too. It was so hard. For whatever reason he kinda grew out of it at 12-13 weeks, so recentely. It was so hard. It started around 5ish weeks, and he cried all day it felt like. He was ok at night but wow, the days were hard, with a 2 yr old and no family around. The only time he would be happy was in the carseat, so we spent a lot of time out and about. I finally went to the doctor after realizing the poor kid was pooping mucuous and so I eliminated dairy and soy and he is much better now. All I can say is hang in there, do what you can do to survive for now (swing, car, walks, etc,.) a no he will grow out of it. But go to the doctor to make sure its not reflux or anything. Good luck, hang in there.

I second this. Keep an eye out for signs of reflux. DS was colicky and also had GERD.

I had many nights of pacing the floor, while holding and trying to comfort DS. Sometimes for hours on end. He eventually grew out of it.

We go for another check up next week but the doc said we'll 'keep an eye on it.'. We've actually been taking him to the chiropractor which has helped immensely!

Do you have a good-quality baby carrier? I would try to put the baby in there immediately after eating so that he is vertical.

Good baby carriers hold the baby's legs in a deep squat (ie not hanging down like the Bjorn, Snugli etc) and have the baby face you.

I just bought a carrier on Friday & love it!! He's doing WAY better with the carrier & he's sleeping more!

I can't see anywhere a mention of whether your baby is on breast or bottle? If baby is on the breast, your diet can cause colic.

My baby is exclusively breastfed, and while not truly colicky, the first few weeks of his life he was very fussy when not sleeping, esp. in the evening. We started giving him children's probiotics. A powder that we mixed into some breastmilk. At first I used a eyedropper to administer, now I just use a bottle once a day with the probiotics mixed in. It has really helped his gassiness. He is much less fussy now at 2 months old than he was at 2 - 6 weeks.

I see that this is an old post. DD wasn't colicky but I was wondering how everything worked out for you? How is your son doing and what ultimately helped you?
