36 month milkstone!!!!

Postby oktober84 » Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:05 pm

Just wanted to ask your opinions....shouldn't DD be self weaned by now?? Is it weird that I still let her nurse once a day? I am content with letting her nurse but holy moly everyone seems to think that if I let her continue any longer she is always going to be BF'ing. They call it laziness on my part but I call it spending time with my munchkin before she decides that she doesn't need me anymore. And I can tell you that my family will not let up on this topic. I am getting tired of all of them cussing me for allowing her to nurse this long. I am expecting it any day now where she won't ask anymore but until then I guess I will just silently narrow my eyes at anyone who comments. :)

Congratulations on your milkstone!

I think it just depends on the mom (and the baby). I personally don't plan on still nursing at 3 years old, but every mom and baby dynamic is different.

I have a feeling my son is so gung-ho and busy that he would wean himself by then anyway .

I'm jealous of your milkstone! I don't think there is anything wrong with her still nursing. she needs the comfort of being close to you and your milk is still supplying her with wonderful things. Weaning worldwide is 2-7 years old.

As long as you and she are good with things and it's working, forget about everyone else. If they give you a hard time, ask them why they are commenting? Ask them why it bothers them. Turn things around on them. what you are doing is amazing and wonderful. it's not really anyone else's business as to the why.

Congrats on your milkstone! I agree with Meg. It's really nobody's place to comment on your BFing relationship.

I think that's lovely, congratulations! It no doubt a special ritual for you both, which makes her feel secure, and as long as you're both happy, everyone else can take a running jump imho.

My husbands youngest brother weaned himself around 42 months with no issues. (DH is second oldest of a big bunch of kids) I agree with PPs, it is absolutely your business and no one else's. Id say, as long as you're still fine with it, your daughter will let you know when she's ready.

I just weaned my daughter and she will be 3 1/2 next month. She also only nursed once a day (in the morning, if she stayed dry overnight), and while I was OK with it, I think that my extended family thought I was nuts! I recently fully weaned her because I found out I am pregnant again and my 17 month old has been nursing a lot and I was too overwhelmed. I think every relationship is different. I really wanted her to make the decision and now that the time has come, I think I was able to "help" her decide it was time and she feels like it was her choice. We now cuddle every morning in bed and I think she still feels like she gets that special time with me, which I really think was the reason she continued as long as she did.

congrats mama! I hate that people even ask, what the hell do they care for? really bothers me, wish people would just mind their OWN business. You have done and are doing an AMAZING job. hugs to you!!

Congrats!! It's so awesome! I've been nursing 37 months almost 38 and DD has just started to do every other day lately. I'm still nursing my 10 month old. I think your doing and did an OUTSTANDING JOB!! When she's ready she will be ready and when your ready to be done you'll know too. I don't care what people deem normal or not or what society dictates. I do what I know is best for us.
