Hello Fellow Hopeful Mammas,
I just wanted to give all of those 40+ mammas some hope that pregnancy does happen naturally even at this age. And I will try my best to keep it short and to the point. But with that, the following will be very dry and un-entertaining...
I am a 44.4 year old, been trying for 20 months with my 40-year-old new husband whom has never had children. I have 3 children from a previous marriage (ages 16 1/2, 15 and 9 1/2, all boys). Achieved pregnancy on 3rd month with first son, 2nd month with 2nd son, and for the 3rd son, was not even trying as husband had a vasectomy 5 years prior, but one got through and next thing you know I was pregnant).
With first son had bleeding at 6 1/2 weeks, followed by an u/s and everything was fine. No bleeding with 2nd son. 3rd son, noticed a light period at 4-5 weeks and though nothing of it because I thought I was having regular period. Come to find out at 6 1/2 weeksI was pregnant! That "period" I had was awfully light...which may have been some sort of implantation spotting. Not sure.
Anyway, I have been an elite athlete running miles and miles throughout all of my pregnancies and prior to them. Never had a problem conceiving. But, I stopped exercising excessively years ago and currently only walk or run 3-6 miles a few times a week. I am very active, but have cut back dramatically. Maybe I should start running 13 miles a day again...that is what I was doing when I conceived in the past! ;-)
No health issues. I'm 5 6 1/2 and about 120, but recently got up to 125 hoping that would help me conceive, but it actually just makes me feel crappy.
Have not had any formal testing on myself or husband as our fertility appointment is scheduled for June.
I also eat ridiculously well (dandelion greens, garlic, beets, tons of probiotics, lean meats, fresh eggs, homegrown veggies, sprouted broccoli, seeds, etc. I can't possibly name everything I eat). Although, I do drink coffee daily (1-2 cups). I always have and its never been a problem. But the last couple months, I cut back to less than 1 cup. I also drink wine, but have cut back on that as well.
After 20 months, I finally received a strong BFP at 13 DPO on a Clear Blue Easy +/- Test.
8DPO on IC Cheapie BFN
10DPO on IC Cheapie Very Very Faint BFP
11DPO on IC Cheapie Very Faint BFP
12 DPO on IC Cheapie Very Faint BFP
13 DPO on IC Cheapie Very Faint BFP
We made love on CD 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20
Didn't test again until today (19 DPO) when I started experiencing some mild cramping and then spotting which turned to heavier bleeding, cramping, passing clots, etc. I used another IC with very diluted urine in the afternoon and the line was VERY VERY faint. I will retest tomorrow with another Clear Blue Easy test, but I'm certain it will be negative. I use a menstrual cup and lost more than one ounce of blood in 5 hours (that is A LOT OF BLOOD).
I am certain of ovulation because I have a Kindara BBT Thermometer and have a confirmed ovulation on CD14 with a triphasic chart.
I have not really had any symptoms, but this is totally normal for me. With all my other 3 pregnancies, I had zero symptoms. I have never had any miscarriages either.
Over the last 20 months I have never even had a slightest BFP. The last two months, I started acupuncture once a week, Chinese Herbs, COQ10, B-Complex, Women's Whole Food Mulit-Vitamin, Zinc, DIM, Vit C, and Magnesium.
I have also done TONS of meditation every single day (guided meditation for conceiving) as well as a little pregnancy yoga.
Oh, and I was (and still am) scheduled for our first fertility appointment on June 15th. My husbands employer covers three rounds of IVF, but I really didn't want to take this route. I guess I should be thankful...
Lastly, my acupuncturist wanted me to continue with some other Chinese Herbs (Dong Quai) and others, but after researching on my own found that there is no research on these and it kind of freaked me out. I opted to not take these...who knows if it would have made a difference.
Anyway, at this point I am having heavy bleeding, low throbbing pain (like I would have during a very heavy period) and passing clots.
My first OB appointment was scheduled for 5/28, but I guess that will no longer be happening.
Oh, and I will try to be happy that I actually "got pregnant" and at least something worked after 20 months. Moving on till next month or fertility treatment, even though at the moment I am over it!
Tomorrow (Mothers Day), my hubby is out of the country for work, but I am going to wake up at 6am and treat myself to a long solo run in the forest, then make my boys breakfast and take them on a 3 mile hike. We live in Santa Cruz, CA and are lucky to have the mountains and the ocean out our doorstep :-)
